Below is a list of the main village events but also
throughout the year in the public hall there are events, talks and shows.
Various local organisations also hold fetes, barbecues and fund raisers on
the Harbour Head.
For an up to
date of what is going to happen look at “The Gate” down on the square. At
the bottom of Fore Street on the corner of Commercial Road and Shute Lane.

Olympic torch Sets off from Lands End on it way to Plymouth and
passes through nearby Helston. Time tbc

Porthleven Harbour Market - Situated on the
picturesque right-hand side (Breageside as we locals say) of the Harbour.
Opened in August 2009, the market has quickly become popular as a meeting
place in good weather and a lively draw to residents and visitors with its
cheerful traders and their unusual local crafts and foods.

Tall Tales of Penrose
Penrose Estate: Gunwalloe and Loe Pool, near Helston Cornwall TR13 0RD
A National Trust Event: Join our master storyteller in a magical walk beside
Loe Pool to hear the myths and mysteries of Penrose on an early summers

The Classic Quarter 44
Not a Porthleven event but an endurance race of 44 miles from the Lizard
Point to Lands End. Starting at 6am the racers pass through Porthleven from
about 8am. With an entry field of about 300 and solo participants doing the
full course or in teams of 2 or 4 to do a half or quarter.
Last Saturday in June
Annual St. Peterstide Celebrations. With a procession around the town and
harbour, led by the band. This is an ancient festival and bears a close
resemblance to the pardons of Brittany.
July
Sunday 15th (TBC)
Porthleven Regatta - Pilot Gig
Day. Gig boat racing from clubs all over Cornwall. Stalls on the
harbour head. Cheer on the yellow Porthleven gigs "Energetic" and "St. Elvan"
who need all the help they can get. Gigs arrive from 9.00am and the first of
nine races starts at noon.
Porthleven Gig Club - Race Across The Bay.( not sure about this one
as the club is a bit hush hush about dates) But it is a gig boat race across the
Mounts Bay. Starting from Marazion at 6.30pm
the boats race to Porthleven. finishing at the harbour entrance.

RNAS Culdrose Air Day (Helston) - Annual
spectacular military air day (not if cloudy or raining) Plenty of stalls,
exhibits, press ganging, etc. http://www.airday.co.uk.

Porthleven Town Band
Playing Every Sunday
(weather permitting)
7pm Outside of the Harbour Inn on Commercial Road. Also on Thursday evenings
throughout August.
2012 - 26th August (TBC)
Porthleven Lifeboat Day. Includes a visit from the Penlee Lifeboat and a
SAR helicopter from RNAS Culdrose, as well as water sports, stalls etc. A
major event attracting many hundreds of people raising funds for the RNLI
Sunday
Porthleven Carolaire will be held at the Harbour Head.
Members of the public are welcome to join in the community hymn singing that
will be led by Praze/Hayle Male Choir and accompanied by Porthleven Town
Band from 7.30pm. Tommy Bray, from Four Lanes, and Angela Thomas, landlady
of the Halzephron Inn at Gunwalloe, will compare the evening.
End Aug
Torchlight Procession. Held annually on the August Bank Holiday
at dusk. Hundreds of torches parade around the village and harbour to the
sound of Porthleven's Town Band. Open to all and torches bought in local
shops. Culminating in a spectacular display of fireworks.
September
Parkinson's Charity Walk from Porthleven to Marazion
Join us on Saturday 24th September 2011 to walk 10.8 miles of the most
beautiful and challenging miles in Cornwall, from Porthleven to Marazion, in
aid of Parkinson’s UK!
Registration is only £5 and all funds raised will help people with
Parkinson's here in the South West. To get your place, please email

Sunday
Porthleven Raft Race. The fourth annual raft race in the harbour. All
welcome and £5 entry fee on the day. Rafts in the water by 1.30pm to 2pm
start.
October
Porthleven Lights Committee Annual Harvest Festival. 7.30pm for 8pm at the
Atlantic Inn, Peverell Terrace. Auction of fruit and veg. and preserves. All
welcome and proceeds toward the Porthleven lights.
Sunday
Porthleven "Fancy Dress" Pram Race. Starting 11.30 from the Ship Inn and
raising funds for Macmillan Cancer and the Porthleven Christmas lights.

Local produce on sale. 8.300am to 1.00pm at Helston School, Helston. For more details please contact 01326 231146.
(A new centre is being built for opening 2012 back at the original location
at the site of the old cattle market at the boating lake).
