Wirral MIND - for better mental health
For better mental health

ABOUT WIRRAL MIND

The organisation was founded in 1967 by a group of local people and was known as the Wirral Association for Mental Health. Although remaining autonomous it was affiliated to National Mind in the 1980s.

Wirral Mind has since developed a number of approaches and services aimed at supporting and improving the quality of life of all people on Wirral who experience emotional difficulties and distresses in their lives.

We believe that people should have the widest range of opportunities to recover to the greatest possible extent from these difficulties and enhance their quality of life, if that is what they choose. Increasingly people are using self management tools like the Wellness Recovery Action Plan, to collect, share and use in their lives. By identifying, using and sharing ideas, many have left 'how to cope' behind and are looking forward to a much improved quality and enjoyment of life, with personal growth and friendship.

In recovery people become their own 'experts by their experience'. The sharing of knowledge and wisdom, together with often simple coping strategies are powerful ways forward on our journey through life. Some have found that in using these approaches they can reduce or eliminate their distressing 'symptoms'. Recovery from our difficulties is quite possible.

People with mental health needs and difficulties do get better and have good lives!
