Welcome to Whitecraigs Golf Club

A very warm welcome to the website of Whitecraigs Golf Club Glasgow. One of the premier clubs in the West of Scotland, the golf course was once described with these words
“It’s situation is excellent, commanding a fine prospect of hill and dale. The contour is more than gently undulating and there is never the faintest suspicion of monotony at any part of the green. Meantime, Whitecraigs is not easy”.

Those words although spoken many years ago are still true today. The golf course is still in excellent condition and provides a truly wonderful golfing experience to all levels of player. Situated on the Netherton estate, surrounded by beautiful parkland, the course’s rolling fairways and smoothly contoured greens offer a unique challenge at over 6100 yds par 70 (SSS 70).

A founder member of the Brand Putter League, the South Glasgow competition league, Whitecraigs triumphed as winners of the trophy in 2006 for only the fourth time in their history. The team completed the double when they lifted the Boundary Bell trophy later in the same season.

Visitors are always welcome at the club during weekdays and playing with a member at the weekend. Please contact the club Professional Alastair Forrow on 639 2140 to arrange a tee time.

Historical Background

Whitecraigs Golf Club was founded in 1905. William Fernie, the foremost West of Scotland course designer of his time (who included the Ailsa course at Turnberry amongst his commissions) laid out the course. Subsequently, in the nineteen thirties alterations were conducted under the supervision of James Braid.

Whitecraigs has played host to numerous golfing events, none more prestigious than the visits of the American Ryder Cup teams of 1929 and 1933 that included such household names as Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen and Horton Smith. In 1976 Whitecraigs played host to the new event of the World Senior’s Golf Championship and In 1983 the famous Jack Nicklaus arrived at the club to conduct an exhibition match and clinic. Throughout its one hundred years of history Whitecraigs has always been highly rated.
