you are here > Starting up a group for your community

If you have considered setting up a community group or tenants association, you may need to first find out who shares your interests or concerns, speak to your neighbours' or others in the community. See if they also would like to get things done.
You can guarantee that is there are issues in your area that need addressing, then there may be plenty of others who feel the same.
A Public Meeting
If you are interested in setting up a group you may find it useful to contact your landlord, they may have a designated tenant involvement team who can advise you further. They might also help you organise and publicise a public meeting. You can then send an open invite to everyone in the community, asking them to come along and get involved.
Surveys
Surveys are one of the most useful ways of finding out the views of the residents in your area and see whether there is the support needed to start a group.
Estate Walkabouts
An estate walkabout is where a few members of your steering group/association walk around your area with staff from your housing association to identify problems. These walkabouts can be arranged by speaking with your landlord.
