you are here > Our Constitution

Our constitution is a written statement of the aims and rules for our organisation, it also states our area coverage, the membership, the committee roles and rules of meetings.
Any constitution should be seen as a tool to help groups like ours run effectively, this is to protect the rights for all our members, also laying down the responsibilities of our committee and setting out how our meetings should be conducted and run.
Given the ongoing development of the Federation and with the aim to become increasingly representative to the residents of the borough, we are committed to carrying out a full constitutional review. The purpose of this is to ensure that all residents and community groups have equal opportunity to become involved with the Federation and our activities.
At present our constitution only allows delegates from Trafford Housing Trust recognised tenant and resident groups to be nominated and elected onto the Executive Committee. This committee manages the Federation and controls it's finances.
Proposed amendments will make the Federation more accessible to all including, individual residents who may not be a part of an established group, forums, community groups, and other voluntary agencies and of course other tenant and resident groups established in the neighbourhoods across Trafford, where these properties may be managed by other Registered Social Landlords or private landlords.
Any constitutional changes will require ongoing consultation with our existing membership and will be agreed at a General Meeting. All existing members are encouraged to attend and have an input into these important changes.
