| Curry and Quiz | ||
| The Labour Party fights back with a Quiz and Curry. These nights can be a bit messy and a bit loud, but quizmaster Dave Boardman wants you to win points, and ultimately prizes, even though the prizes are pretty tacky, as befits a party concerned with Fiscal Responsibility. The curries are spicy without being toxic. The questions provide tough choices, but if you work together as a team with no backbiting, even if you think the team captain is a bit dodgy, there’s still a faint chance you can win. All money raised goes to help fund the branch. |

| The Unthanks + Jonny Kearney and Lucy Farrell | ||
| The Mercury Prize nominees return to the Trades for a two night stint, with a critically praised new album, an extended line-up and a name change. Rachel’s husband Adrian McNally is on piano and Chris Price has joined on guitar. Reviewing ‘Here’s the Tender Coming’, Robin Denselow wrote “Here's an album that's even more satisfying, compelling and varied than ‘The Bairns’. There are echoes of anything from jazz to music hall and even systems music. Haunting, original and magnificent.” Last December’s show sold out very quickly. If you want to see them this time around, don’t delay, book today. The Unthanks are proud and excited to present Jonny Kearney and Lucy Farrell. Jonny Kearney is a young songwriter from Hexham way and Lucy Farrell is his charming Kentish accomplice. We've had an eye on Jonny's songwriting for a while now, quite staggered by the quality and richness of his kitchen sink dramas and tales of the heart. Says Rachel Unthank, "Jonny's songwriting is heartbreaking and touching, humorous and unexpected, and never ceases to enthral". Lucy (voice, fiddle, saw) and Jonny (voice, guitar, piano) are perfect foils for each other; "the fragility of one and warmth of the other is a moving combination," says Rachel. Jonny and Lucy will open for The Unthanks on every date of their 40 date UK tour. |

| Christopher Rees | ||
| Following recent tours with Kristin Hersh and The Handsome Family, Christopher Rees brings his tremulous murder ballads and twisted rockabilly to The Trades Club. Driven by razor sharp banjo riffs, wailing harmonica and 50's twang his solo shows are a one man tour de force. His new album The Devil’s Bridge has been getting rave reviews across the qualities and the music press. “A spit and sawdust holler that's as close to a Southern hell-fire preacher as you can get hailing from Cardiff. Very, very good”. MOJO |

| Steve Tilston's Trades Roots with Vin Garbutt | ||
| An early Christmas present for Trades Roots fans. We are delighted to welcome Vin Garbutt, past winner of “Best Live Act” in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. Powerful, hugely moving, warm, humane, inspired, funny and gut wrenchingly honest - just some of the superlatives used to describe his performances. Vin is one of the best known performers on the music scene, and one of the most sought-after. It is no surprise. His song-writing is witty and powerful, tackling thought-provoking issues which others prefer to avoid, and he is an accomplished guitarist and fine whistle player. Unbelievably Vin has never played The Trades before, ever! |

| The Mental Elf Collective present Warblefly | ||
| Solstice time again and it'll be a while 'til festy season. So gather round Elves and warm up your festive feet (without the camping or weather!). Warblefly. Noun. 1. Any of several large hairy flies of the family Oestride whose lavae grow under the skin of cattle, causing warbles. 2. A group of more or less hairy musicians, playing raucous traditional music at a festival near you. Fiddles, melodeons and mandolas will be ringing out with a flurry of fingers, over a pounding rythmn section of drum and bass, electric and acoustic guitars. Top this off with vocal uproar, drunken choruses and sweet harmonies. This band are up for it, so you best be ready! Creating a sonic cushion around the band will be Mad Mick (Kulu) and his Morrocan mayhem plus Anton the Cosmo Naughty. Cosmo Naughty shall be delighting us with a fantastic Festival mash up, as one of our favourite Dj's. He's not played here since the early nineties with the Cabbage Head Kids, when he was a local lad. So come dance, drink cake and eat tea, with a splattering of booze if you wish. |

| New Year’s Eve Party with Natural Rhythm and Chapter 4 Bass Culture |
||
| Ska warriors Natural Rhythm brought their rootsy reggae sound to the Trades Club in the summer – after a gap of more than a decade. This time around the band still has that hard, raw ska sound with a handful of reggae tunes thrown in for good measure. The strapline ‘ska warriors’ come form their attitude, in Tony Bootsy’s words "we don't take no prisoners man". Natural rhythm have revamped their old songs and have new songs in their setlist too. Chapter Four Bass Culture is well known to Trades Club members and the old hands Daddy Tone and Dillinger P will be here to keep the party real. Dancehall, Ska and reggae, you’ll almost feel the sunshine! Happy New Year! |
