Mid-October and autumn vagrants are never far from my mind.
A couple of Great White Egrets had been seen in neighbouring Northamptonshire, and those PBC birders not on the annual GPOG Cornish trip were ever watchful in case one should wander our way.
News of this bird came from an unknown source and stated simply that it was on a drain near Sawtry, east of the A1. I was first on site and soon narrowed the choice of drains down to one likely contender.
A short walk along it to view round a bend and bingo! There it was. It was very nervous so I had to use my 32xWA to get a few distant record shots.
