Jack Snipe
Lymnocryptes minimus
Ferry Meadows Country Park, Peterborough

One of my favourite birds and certainly one of the most comical. There are fewer things that look odder than a 'bouncing' Jackie.

Few are as obliging as this one in the Peterborough area, although in recent winters I and other local birders have found two new regular wintering sites, one of which recorded a staggering count of 27 birds on one count day - it outnumbered Common Snipe!
