On 16 June 2003 whilst on a crepuscular visit to this 600 acre birchwood fen to search for Woodcock and owls, I found seven female Glow-worms and a single male insect (with one of the females).
Returning the following evening, I found three glowing females and was able to take some long exposure shots using my digital camera to record one.
The series of photos above shows a single female as she is curled around two blades of grass, so that the end of her abdomen is pointing upwards (so she is a crescent shape).
The picture to the left has been adjusted digitally so that you can just make out the insect, with her head at 1 o'clock from the glowing abdomen tip, with two blades of grass on which she is clinging running across her from 10 o'clock to 4 o'clock.
