A ten foot high leyland cypress hedge runs along much of the north side of the garden. It is kept well-clipped and topped and provides a brilliant sanctuary for nesting and feeding birds. The local cats find it almost impossible to climb through the tangle of branches and it's simply too dense for a Sparrowhawk to penetrate.
