The Renovation Team

In early 2007 we moved into city centre premises at The Cornerstone. One of the first tasks confronting us in these large premises was how to get it renovated for the official opening in July and creating a pleasant workplace for us all.

It seemed an ideal opportunity to involve a group of local volunteers with learning difficulties in carrying out renovation work. The people involved would gain work skills and volunteering opportunities. In addition, their involvement would help us to understand how The Cornerstone could best serve local people with learning difficulties and would help shape Thumbprint’s work there.

The Renovation Team was a great success. The people involved gained significant work skills and experience and at the same time they helped shape Thumbprint’s presence at The Cornerstone. Some people stayed on to volunteer more long term.
