Explain It!

Explain It! started in January 2003. Explain It! made information that is easy to understand.

Explain It! ran as a project for 7 years. At the end of this time the three people involved in Explain it! had moved on to other projects – including setting up Untangling The Web and developing peer mentoring at The Cornerstone.

In the time it was operating Explain It! worked on a range of ways of creating accessible information. It also made a huge difference to the way that Thumbprint creates and uses accessible information as a normal part of its work.

Explain It!’s history is a good example of how Thumbprint’s project support works. We supported Explain It! so long as it was a valid project for those involved in it. When the people involved in Explain It! moved on to other projects – and as there were no others wanting to work on it - then the project came to an end.

Explain It! could be restarted as a project in the future; in the meantime, because of the work done by Explain It! we always try to make our information as accessible as we can for everyone.

Explain It! built up a lot of experience and ideas and proved that it is possible to create accessible information for any situation. Mostly we use pictures with words but we also use Power Point and voice recordings.
