The Diggers was a pilot project funded by Morecambe Bay Health Trust. The people involved were doing garden construction work and from this were able to earn an income.
The work carried out was for other people with learning difficulties. The Diggers and their project worker worked with the garden owners in deciding how they wanted their garden. This meant that they were able to encourage the garden owners to engage with and use the garden space more fully.
The pilot went very well; there was a lot of enthusiasm and support for the work The Diggers are doing. We hope to develop The Diggers as a permanent project when the opportunity arises - perhaps in connection with Fork To Fork.
