Some images from local courses
Dartmoor and the South Hams area offers a wide variety of course types and designs. Alongside beautifully constructed links and parkland courses which are maintained to the highest standards, don't be surprised to chance upon clifftop, woodland, heathland and open moorland courses replete with sheep, cows and wild Dartmoor ponies wandering the fairways. It is also not unusual to find well manicured greens protected from the local wildlife by wire fencing, and undulating fairways complete with hoofprints, which rely more for their upkeep on the eating habits of the local fauna than the efforts of greenkeeper, tractor and mower.
However, regardless of the state of the playing surfaces - from finely manicured to rough & ready -, what is not in doubt is the challenge which the courses of South Devon offer for players of all handicaps. Both the avid golfer, steeled to play 36 holes each day over a long weekend, and the occasional golfer planning a quick round or two during a holiday week in Devon, can find a worthy golfing challenge.
Thus, the images below are our constantly evolving record of courses close to Esmé's Cottage. Presented in no partricular order, the photos may give you a better feel for those courses you are considering playing. Though please excuse the quality of the images. They are opportunistic at best as, at the time, my mind was more on my swing than on my shutter speed!

The above views of the South Devon golf courses are an endless work in progress for us. We seek to compile, over a period of time, a series of images which show all of the courses in all season's and in all conditions. If, during your break at Esmé's Cottage, you take a photograph of a South Devon course which portrays a particular feature of interest to other golfers, email it to us and we'll publish it on the site.
