Esmé's Cottage
Esmé's Cottage is located just 50 metres from the original Ivy Bridge, a 13th Century stone-built construction which crosses the River Erme in the old part of Ivybridge's town centre. The bridge is still in use today. Of 'hump-back' design and originally used by both riders and pack horses, it is the subject of the 1813 painting by Turner entitled 'Ivy Bridge'.
The Cottage is one of 6 in a row of terraced cottages which were built approximately 170 years ago. Originally of single story thatched design, the cottages have been extended over the years, and the thatch has been replaced with more functional slate tiles.
On entering from the street, the Cottage comprises a main living room and large kitchen/diner downstairs. Upstairs there are 3 pretty bedrooms and a toilet/bathroom with bath and shower. The property is carpeted throughout, except for the blue-pebble bathroom floor, and the kitchen which is floored in blue-grey slate.
The accommodation, which is centrally heated and benefits from modern sealed unit double-glazing, comfortably sleeps up to 5 + baby. We consider this to be an appropriate number of guests for the size of the property and the available facilities. Guests also have access to a small, private south-facing patio and rockery garden to the rear of the property. Outdoor table & chairs, parasol, lounger and barbecue are provided.
