Town Centre The town of Ivybridge has developed from rural Devonshire village, sitting on the banks of the River Erme, between the parishes of Cornwood and Ermington, into what I would describe as a 'working Devonshire town'. The town is administered by the South Hams district council in partnership with Ivybridge Town Council. It provides access to all of the facilities and amenities which you would expect of a provincial town, including supermarket, local butcher, delicatessen, cafe, restaurants & bars, junior and senior schools, colleges of further education, indoor tennis centre, swimming pool, gym and other sports facilities. The Watermark, a Town Council sponsored cinema, library, theatre and arts centre, houses the Tourist Information Centre and is located close to the High Street. Our experience of the South Hams district council and the Town Council is that they work together to provide a high level of service for residents and tourists alike. |
| Around Ivybridge As administrators of an area of outstanding natural beauty, the South Hams authority takes its community and environmental responsibilities very seriously. The effect of its policies can be seen in the cleanliness of the town and its environs, its policies towards recycling & waste management and in its support for community activities such as the annual 'Ivybridge in Bloom' competition. In essence, we feel a real community cohesion exists in Ivybridge between the authorities and the local community. This spirit has sadly waned or disappeared in so many other parts of England.

From a directions point of view, Ivybridge sits on the main A38 dual carriageway between Exeter and Plymouth. Thus, the town may be reached from the Home Counties within 3 - 3.5 hours. For those who crave all that Plymouth has to offer, the city can be reached within a 15 minute drive and is just one stop beyond Ivybridge on the Bristol//Exeter/Plymouth main railway line.
