This is a good drill for both the attackers and the goalkeeper.

The attacker starts on the edge of the D outside the penalty box. The coach is somewhere between the edge of the penalty box and the penalty spot.

The attacker playes the ball to the coach, who then lays the ball off to either the left or right. The attacker advances and shoots.

Vary the angle of the lay off.

The player should shout to tell the coach which side to lay the ball off to.

Points to watch:

• Clear call from the attacker as to which side they want the ball playing
• Encourage shots across goal
• Watch goalkeeper positioning - not too far out, and closing the angle.
• Concentrate on accuracy rather than power

You can also get one of the players to do the lay-off rather than the coach.
