This is a great drill for getting your back-four working as a unit, and to watch attacking play to ensure that some shape is maintained.
People do Attack vs Defence in a number of ways. This is how we do it.
We have a back four and a goalkeeper. The back four start around the edge of the penalty area. The rest of the players (or six or seven of them)
form the attacking team. The objective is for the attackers to score a goal.
Points to watch:
- Keep the back four in a good shape
- Try to ensure that defenders dont get drawn too far out of position to the ball
- Understand how to play off-side with a defensive line
- Help the attackers understand not to run off-side
- Encourage the attackers to get some width into the play
- Encourage the attackers to recycle possession if they get stuck (be prepared to pass backward aswell as forward)
- Ensure that the attackers dont all push up onto the defensive line and that they maintain some depth in the attack
