The unit situated in Tipton is a purpose built property completed in October 2005. It is fully wheelchair accessible and each child has an individual bedroom with on-suite facilities. Three of these rooms are fully equipped with H-hoists to help with those children with physical disabilities. In addition the unit offers a great deal of communal space both indoors and outdoors which is equipped with the latest therapeutic and leisure equipment. This includes, sensory rooms, soft play areas, Jacuzzi baths and wet play rooms. The unit also benefits from the provision of wheelchair accessible transport which facilitates the day care and social activity programmes.
As well as in-house activities Sandley House is developing a program of community based activities based upon each child’s care plan, choice of activities and staffing requirements.
The unit works with children aged between four and eighteen years of age and works closely with adult services, to ensure a smooth transition to other services, when children become too old to attend the unit.
Sandley House is managed by a very experienced and qualified team lead by a registered nurse (RNMH). The unit has a committed staff team of well-trained and experienced carers and each child has a dedicated key worker responsible for the implementation of their individual care plan.
Although the unit has six places available four of them are block booked, two by Sandwell MBC and two by Dudley MBC. The other two places are available for other local authorities to purchase. If you think your child would benefit from this service please contact the unit to discuss the option available to you and your child.
Residential Care
SCCT also offers long term residential care for children with learning and/or physical disabilities. The Trust has no preconceived ideas about what this long-term care should look like and these services are designed around the needs of individual children.
However it is The Trusts belief that long term residential care should be provided individually or in small friendship groups (no more than two or three). The properties in which these services are provided would be purchased specifically for the individual child or small friendship group. Before purchasing properties the trust considers:
Childs
choice of location
Number of room required
Is ground floor level/access required
Where family members live
Where social activities take place
Which school is attended
