Delivering sessions - how we do it?
Setting up creative sessions
STAA receives written referrals from professionals working in health and social care and also from carers and people who self-refer. Health and wellbeing goals are identified by the referrer and the STAA co-ordinator meets with the potential participant to make an assessment about their needs.
The co-ordinator matches an artist to the person depending on the art form chosen and a meeting is arranged. At this meeting a programme of activities is agreed.
Delivering creative sessions
The artist visits the participant on a regular basis, weekly, fortnightly or monthly by prior arrangement. Sessions last between an hour and two hours or more if a cultural trip is planned. Sessions are flexible and their frequency and length of depends on the person's needs .
Partnership working
STAA is part of the network of secondary level services for older people with mental health needs in Sandwell and works closely with other professional agencies involved in the well being of older people. STAA receives referrals from professionals working for Sandwell Mental Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust as well as from social workers and managers of sheltered accommodation, residential or nursing homes and from other organisations working with older people.
“STAA is an essential part of the overall network of support available”- comment form a community psychiatric nurse.
