It was during his time at the RNCM that he
was given the opportunity to exhibit his talent for directing. His first
endeavour was an immensely enjoyable production of L’Elisire d’Amore in
1991 followed in 1992/3 with an in house production of Pagliacci.
His
ability as a director was given further opportunities when Mr. John
Bethell, Founder/Director of The Mananan International Festival of Music
invited him to direct a production of the Barber of Seville in1997
followed in 1999 with L'Elisire d’Amore.
In 2001 Ryland teamed up with
Michael Rosewell conductor, for a production of the “Barber of Seville”
for Clonter Farm Trust at Clonter Opera Theatre in Cheshire. The
production was very successful and was nominated for a Manchester Evening
News Award.
