Directing

It was during his time at the RNCM that he was given the opportunity to exhibit his talent for directing. His first endeavour was an immensely enjoyable production of L’Elisire d’Amore in 1991 followed in 1992/3 with an in house production of Pagliacci.

His ability as a director was given further opportunities when Mr. John Bethell, Founder/Director of The Mananan International Festival of Music invited him to direct a production of the Barber of Seville in1997 followed in 1999 with L'Elisire d’Amore.

In 2001 Ryland teamed up with Michael Rosewell conductor, for a production of the “Barber of Seville” for Clonter Farm Trust at Clonter Opera Theatre in Cheshire. The production was very successful and was nominated for a Manchester Evening News Award.
