The Hands Rochester Volunteer Bureau is a voluntary organisation supporting the communities in the Chatham, Rochester and Strood and outlying areas of Medway. The primary purpose of the bureau is to foster the principle of voluntary work by recruiting, advising and placing volunteers with other voluntary and charitable organisations and using volunteers in directly managed schemes.
Volunteering is open to everyone, by undertaking voluntary work you can improve the quality of life for many disadvantaged people in the community and in so doing find a great sense of satisfaction in doing something worthwhile. Volunteering also provides a means of developing ones practical and "life" skills which may prove to be of enormous benefit in the future.
HANDS is affiliated to Volunteer England
HANDs Rochester Volunteer Bureau was founded in 1969 and is funded by the Medway Council and by contributions from private business, charitable trusts and sundry donations from local churches, HANDs volunteers and grateful clients.
