LinksLocal Towns Llandrindod Wells Llandrindod Wells is an old Victorian spa town which retains its Victorian atmosphere. For one week every August the town holds a Victorian Festival when locals and visitors dress for the part; there is street entertainment, talks and lectures, shows, local tours and much more ending with an impressive torchlight procession and firework display over the lake. Rhayader Rhayader is also on the river Wye. It is the gateway to the Elan Valley where a series of dams and reservoirs were built in the 19th century to supply water to Birmingham. It is a very beautiful area for walking or for a Sunday afternoon drive. Over recent years, red kites have been encouraged to breed in the region and it is not unusual to see these beautiful birds which were once threatened with extinction in Britain. Builth Wells Builth Wells Builth Wells is beautifully situated on the River Wye. It really comes to life in late July when the Royal Welsh Agricultural Show is held there. Located in the middle of farm land there are often cattle or sheep to be seen in the adjoining fields. Gilfach Farm Gilfach is a traditional Radnorshire hill farm that has remained unimproved since the 1960's. The farm was in existence by the end of the 15th century though there is evidence of human activity stretching back to the bronze age. The restored farmhouse was rebuilt in the 16th century. Since 1988, the Trust has restored all the ancient field boundaries (stone walls, banks and hedgerows) and fenced off the woodlands. The reserve is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. Radnorshire Museum After a major refurbishment, the Radnorshire Museum in Llandrindod Wells re-opened its doors on 29 June 2006. Elan Valley Visitors Centre Set against a spectacular backdrop of Victorian stone dams, the Elan Valley Visitor Centre is the perfect starting point for your visit to the area.
