| Pembridge
Square |
Last year the Council carried out a junction
improvement scheme at the junction of Pembridge Square
and Pembridge Villas involving the removal of the
pedestrian island and the narrowing of the road. The
build out of the pavement on the North of the junction is
designed to slow down southbound traffic entering
Pembridge Square from Pembridge Villas. The Ward
Councillors vigorously and successfully opposed the
imposition of one of the now standard side road junction
"entry treatments" as being inappropriate to
the street scene in a conservation area. |
| Chepstow
Place |
The Council has recently constructed a mini-roundabout
at the junction of Chepstow Place and Dawson Place with
the object of slowing down the dangerously high speed of
some of the traffic along Chepstow Place. The effect of
the introduction of this roundabout is being monitored
and a report will be made to a future meeting of the
Hightways and Traffic Committee in due course. |
| Chepstow
Villas |
There have been many traffic accidents over may
years at the junctions of Chepstow Villas with both
Pembridge Crescent and Chepstow Crescent. The Council has
carried out traffic counts along Chepstow Villas and it
is expected that mini-roundabouts will be constructed at
both these junctions in an attempt to slow down the
traffic taking a shortcut from Pembridge Villas to
Kensington Park Road. |
| Consultation |
The Council is currently consulting residents in
the area about possible pavement widening in Notting Hill
Gate adjacent to the North Underground Exit between
Pembridge Road and Pembridge Gardens. The objective of
this is to provide a wider pavement for the benefit of
pedestrians and a small lay-by for traffic delivering
goods to the adjacent shop premises. It is also proposed
to plant a tree, to provide additional bicycle stands,
and to move the flowerstall slightly southwards so that
it no longer obstructs the exit from the Underground.
This work is currently (24/09/2000) being held up while
the Environmental Services Committee considers the detail
design of the streetscene in the Borough (See News Page) |
