Recent Planning Applications

25/26 PEMBRIDGE SQUARE

A planning application (PP/07/01784) was submitted and registered by the Council on 2nd July 2007 for the change of use of No 25 & No 26 Pembridge Square from hotel (C1) to residential (C3).

The drawing on he left shows the building as it existed at the time of the planning application with No 26 on the left and No 25 on the right.

Between the two buildings is an unsightly link that was constructed at a different period to infill the gap

The drawing on he left shows the building as it is proposed to be after conversion.

The space between the two buildings has had the link removed and replaced by an all glass one which helps to show up and restore the original character of the period.

New chimneys, adjacent to where the building link,  have also been  constructed to replace the inappropriate ones

10 CHEPSTOW PLACE

A planning application has been submitted to demolish No 10 Chepstow Place and to replace it with contemporary design.

This has made the Pembridge Association think seriously about the implications involved in constructing new buildings in conservation area.

No 10 was constructed at a much later stage than the building in the adjacent terrace to the south (on the left) and No 8 extends much further forward (on he right).

The question that might be asked is whether No 10 ought to be constructed to continue the character of the adjacent terrace or whether a more contemporary design might be acceptable?

The architect has produced a photomontage to show the effect of the construction a modern building sandwiched between No. 8 and No.12 Chepstow Place.

The elevation is proposed to be faced with Portland Stone.

The height has been increased to more effectively fit in with the adjacent terraces.
