

ACTIVITIES OF GAN
Manchester Course in Group Psychotherapy
This one year course is intended for professionals from many fields who are interested and involved in groups, including naturally occurring groups in their professional work. It is recognised by the Institute of Group Analysis and the Northwest Institute of Dynamic Psychotherapy as a prerequisite to their advanced training courses for qualification as a psychotherapist.
Advanced Learning Modular Course in Group Psychotherapy
This course allows for further development of the experiences, ideas and skills acquired in the Manchester Course in Group Psychotherapy. It aims to support clinical practice and development as a group therapist by offering modules of group supervision, theoretical seminars and experiential group. Students may also submit a clinical paper. This course takes two to three years to complete.
Diploma Course in Group Analysis
In collaboration with the Institute of Group Analysis (London), GAN hosts a professional training course leading to award of the Institute's Diploma, together with Diploma Membership of the Institute. This is a full training in group analysis with UKCP recognition, and requires a minimum of four years to complete. The course takes the form of ten block weekends each year. Theory, supervision and therapy are all included within the course.
2. OTHER ACTIVITIES
Monday Seminars
These are held one the third Monday of the month, nine times per year. There is normally a presentation followed by informal discussion. Monday Seminars are free to GAN members. Non-members pay an admission charge of £2.00 for each seminar.
Friday Seminars
Three or four times each year GAN hosts Friday meetings which are addressed by eminent group analysts. These meetings are open to the public at a charge of £40.00. GAN members are invited at a charge of £30.00.
Median Group
This group meets on Monday evenings nine times per year, from 5:45 pm until 7:15 pm. The Median Group is the basic size of naturally-occurring modern groups in education, the workplace and politics, and the object is simple: learning to talk to each other. The group is convened by David Kennard, Consultant Clinical Psychologist at The Retreat and Director of the Tuke Centre for Psychotherapy and Counselling, both in York.
Summer Workshop
Each year GAN organises a three-day residential workshop offering participants the opportunity to experience group analytic processes and to update ideas through small and large groups and seminars.
GANNET Newsletter
The GANNET Newsletter reports on the activities of GAN and other group-analytic issues in the North. Readers are invited to contribute news, views, opinions and even controversy to GANNET. The newsletter is free to GAN members.
