GROUP ANALYSIS

Dr S H Foulkes conducted his first analytic group over fifty years ago in Exeter. His application of psychoanalytic principles to the group situation became known as group analysis.

Group analysis is holistic in its approach and takes the stance that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The concepts of group analysis are those of an open living system and provide a fertile medium for the generation of new ideas.

Group analysis as a mode of treatment is in the group, of the group, by the group including the conductor.

In addition group analysis has applications in a wide range of settings, including industry, education and the caring professions. For further information try The Institute of Group Analysis: www.gannet.org.uk   or try the resources in the NWIDP links page..
