Following the award to NHIG of £30,000 for a Feasibility Study for a Public Art Project, considerable progress has been made. Following extensive discussions and advice from Art Project Management, public art advisers, adverts were placed in relevant art publications seeking applicants.

As a result over 150 artist's briefs were sent out and 39 submissions received. These were extensively discussed with representatives of our principal partners, Land Securities and The Royal Borough on 15th January. Following this meeting two teams led and co-ordinated by Piers Gough and Richard McCormac were selected; both of these eminent urban designers made excellent presentations to the enlarged Group on 19th April after which Piers Gough was selected as Lead Co-ordinator.

We hope all our readers and supporters will share our excitement at this chance to transform dramatically the environment of NHG. It is highly likely that there will be associated infrastructure costs resulting from the Arts Proposals. These can not be funded by the Arts Council.

The project involves 17 schemes that have evolved following very extensive consultation. We are displaying these in our "Now Showing" gallery at 99 Notting Hill Gate. You are strongly encouraged to come in and give us your views; you are an important part of the Consultative Process.

On 2nd March 2000 the Final Report on the Feasibility Study was submitted to the Arts Council of England.

The Arts Council subsequently encouraged us to make a new funding application which was submitted, for £846,000, on 22nd January 2001. We have been informed that we should receive a decision before the end of May 2001.
