Time as with all other computer components has run its course on CD and DVD drives, most drives now are cheap enough to replace any failing drive with a newer up to date DVD ±  rewriter unit, DVD ROM drives are still commonly used in systems where there will never be a need to utilise and form of writing data to disc - in some instances PC's can be built with no optical drive fitted these are generally business systems that form part of a larger network

Once again there are two types of connection available on drives IDE and the newer SATA connection offer greater increases in performance - Blu-Ray drives are slowly becoming available offering greater performance and storage capacities however at the moment they are still fairly expensive

The DVR-115D series retain Pioneer’s Disc-Resonance Stabiliser technology. It controls the airflow generated by disc rotates in order to minimise disc warping, which can occur when media rotates at high speed.
