Optical
Drives - CD and DVD writers
Time as with
all other computer components has run its course on CD
and DVD drives, most drives now are cheap enough to
replace any failing drive with a newer up to date DVD ±
rewriter unit, DVD ROM drives are still commonly used in
systems where there will never be a need to utilise and
form of writing data to disc - in some instances PC's
can be built with no optical drive fitted these are
generally business systems that form part of a larger
network
Once again
there are two types of connection available on drives
IDE and the newer SATA connection offer greater
increases in performance - Blu-Ray drives are slowly
becoming available offering greater performance and
storage capacities however at the moment they are still
fairly expensive
