2002 - 2004

FROM THIS..... TO THIS....

The Fire

On bonfire night in 2001, some bright spark decided than burning down the Bollington United changing rooms would be an appropriate way to celebrate.

But for the speedy response of the fire service, we would have lost all our club's equipment.

As can be seen from these pictures however, extensive damage was done and 'the hut' was beyond practical repair.

The Phoenix Project

Bollington United Football Club raised funds and obtained grants to replace the hut with a new brick-built clubhouse. Building work on the changing facilities, services and car park is now complete and the facility has been officially opened.

Thanks to our Sponsors and Fund-raisers

Funds have been raised by activities organised by the fund-raising group. These have included sponsorship of runners in the London Marathon, quiz nights, two grand dinners and auctions, a football game against Manchester City “old boys” “buy-a-brick” etc.  A further grand dinner and auction is planned for September 2004.

Funds have also been raised through grant applications. These have included successful bids for funding from Cheshire Police Authority Community Fund, Macclesfield Borough Council and Bollington Town Council.

Significant donations have been received from Bollington Leisure Centre, AstraZeneca, the Bollington Youth Memorial Fund and the Christian Life Church.

The Official Opening

In May 2004, the then Mayor of Bollington John Kershaw attended the Family Fun Day for the official opening of the new facilities.

The Lord Mayor was joined by Will Spinks from the Phoenix committee, Rick Mottershead (who's father Ernie founded the club with) Sid Bennett.

Future Plans

Discussions with Macclesfield Borough Council about creating two small sided football pitches at the ATAX, in addition to the existing 11 a side pitch, have already begun.  Early indications are very good, with the Council being supportive.
