20th December 2011

We are pleased to inform you that Notting Hill Carnival Festivals Trust (NHCFT) has been set up as the new management organisation for Notting Hill Carnival. NHCFT is a private company limited by guarantee, and is in the process of applying for charitable status.

The formation of this Trust is the culmination of many months work that has been carried out by the Notting Hill Carnival Implementation Board. It is also in line with the recommendations of the recent Review, authored by David Elford and signed off by the previous NHC management organisation, London Notting Hill Carnival Limited (LNHCL).

The objective of Notting Hill Carnival Festivals Trust is to meet and resolve the challenges and difficulties that have been an inherent part of Notting Hill Carnival for many years. Fundamental to this is the creation of a governance structure that allows for Notting Hill Carnival to be run by independent and objective trustees, whose mission and planned activities fall within the objects and purposes as set out in its governing document. The recruitment of these trustees is of top priority, so that the Trust is managed in line with the correct governance and good practise that will ensure the longterm stability and sustainability of Notting Hill Carnival. This is a distinct change from previous Arena influenced organisations.

In the shortterm, the Trust will be managed by the five initial subscribers who now form the new Board: Josephine Scorer, Jonathan Dembo, Shareen Gray, Marsha Jackson and Ian Jackson. These subscribers will retire when the new trustees have been recruited and the implementation process is complete.

The Board is working with the Carnival Arts and Masquerade Foundation (CAMF) and the British Association of Steelbands (BAS) to put in place solid plans for the safe and successful delivery of Carnival 2012. These plans will be submitted in line with stakeholder deadlines. CAMF and BAS are the two Arenas who make the biggest investment in Notting Hill Carnival.

The Board would like to thank Bristows Law Firm for their pro bono legal assistance and support, and also wishes to extend a thanks to the entire Implementation Board for their hard work. We also confirm the dissolution of the Advisory Board.

We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and we very much look forward to working with you all in 2012.

With warm regards,

The NHCFT Board

Seaside break from Carnival
Once again, 40 elderly residents will be given the opportunity to enjoy a break away from the hustle and bustle of Notting Hill Carnival, as part of a scheme run by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.
The scheme, now in its eighth year, is aimed at older people living directly on the Carnival route, who may find the exuberance of the weekend too much.
Residents will be driven to the Glastonbury Hotel in Eastbourne on Saturday 27 August and will return to their homes on Tuesday 30 August, once the Council has had time to clear up and the area is quieter.

Residents' Information
Bulletin
2011

The Carnival Organisers produce a leaflet that is delivered in August to all residential properties in the defined Carnival Area. This gives information about the Carnival and who to contact to obtain specific information. The Councils make every effort to try to ensure that the leaflets reach each property but based on past experience there will sometimes be leaflets that do not reach their intended locations.
