Applications around "Saveall" disc filters, drum filters and DAF units stabilise solids recovery within the wet end backwater system. Improved solids recovery reduces losses to the effluent system. Filtrate water quality can be improved to allow a greater re-use of water and cut fresh water usage. Controlling the feed %Cs. optimises filtering conditions across a screen to achieve better efficiency across the grade range. A continuous measurement of filtrate water quality will provide an immediate alarm of any burst filter segments or leaks and allow polymer addition rates to be set for changing conditions (flow rate and feed quality). The improved operation of fibre recovery systems helps to clean up the ionic trash within the wet end.

The measurement of solids in an influent stream within a mill will allow any material losses to the effluent treatment plant to be tracked. A source of a disturbance that upsets the normal operation of the effluent treatment plant can be identified. Suspended solids, pH and charge can be continuously monitored. The material treatment demands on an effluent plant can be stabilised and help to reduce the risk of environmental spillages above consent levels
