This two-day  course aims to increase participants’ awareness of the current definitions, legislation and management of mentally disordered offenders in the Probation, Criminal Justice, Social Services and Independent arena.

By the end of the two day course, participants will have:

a)    By way of discussion and group exercise explored the definition of the mentally disordered offender

b)     By way of presentation and exercise identified and discussed various common major mental health disorders

c)      Defined the difference, by exercise and presentation, between ‘mad’ and ‘bad’ when assessing and managing offenders

d)     Explored the pertinent legislation and national standards regarding mental disorder and offending

e)     Examined a case study to assist in the management of a mentally disordered offender

f)        Identified risk assessment and risk management considerations

g)     Explored Serious Incident Requirements

h)      Identified and explored Complex needs and Personality Disorder

i)        Examined Housing and Homelessness issues

j)        Received handouts and laminated checklist to assist in the consolidation of learning when returning to the workplace
