‘The Likely Lads’

The Likely Lads was set up by senior men for senior men (with assistance from staff at Elmgrove Manor, Mullan Mews, Sydenham Court and Engage with Age). There will be approx 12 to 16 men in the group. Members shall meet every week on a Tuesday afternoon. The emphasis is to keep active and get out and about as much as weather permits.

Examples put forward by the members include: visiting the Folk and Transport Museum, Victoria Park, Downpatrick, Botanic Park, Ormeau Park, Lady Dixons Park, Barnett’s Park, outdoor bowling, snooker halls, golf, fishing, ship yard, pump house, Stormont, City Hall, rugby games, Grey Point Fort, cinema, tour of the Airport wood crafts, garden activities, to name but a few. The consensus was that the group should get out and about and stay active.

Dig it and Eat it at Mullen Mews

The Dig it and Eat it project started with the tenants in November 2008 and continued on a weekly basis through the winter of 08/09 and then monthly through the summer. During this time the group made and decorated window boxes, planted them up with bedding and put them around the houses to brighten them up. The group made Christmas wreaths, orange pomanders, and in the spring sowed vegetable seeds and potatoes. This winter we have planted bulbs around the front of the houses.
I have really enjoyed working with the group. They are always pleased to see Molly (my dog) and I and remember us from one visit to the next. Some of the group seem to really enjoy working in the garden and on projects but I suspect others are there just to pet the dog and enjoy the craic (and the cups of tea)!

‘Ladies at Lunch’

FUNDED BY BELFAST TRUST

Ladies at Lunch was formed in 2008 by a small group of ladies who liked nothing more than dusting off the fine china and having a good chat while enjoying sandwiches and cake. The ladies decided not to chose a specific day but work an hour or two in through the week. Currently, the ladies have incorporated armchair aerobics instructed by Judith on a Friday.

‘The Willow Club’

The Willow Club is a group of ladies who are senior citizens and part of  Willowfield Parish. They meet each Wednesday at 2.00pm in the Church Hall, Woodstock Road. There is a varied programme of activities each week during the year, to which all are warmly invited. Mullan Mews ladies have been enjoying all that’s on offer since 2005.
