Welcome to the first edition of the Derbyshire Carers Directory. We hope you find the information
useful and enjoy reading about the exciting opportunities that are available for carers across
Derbyshire. Information is divided by area and is a mix of general information about organisations to
help you and local support groups.
This Directory has been produced by Derbyshire Carers Association in partnership with Derbyshire
County Council. It is very much a first version and we are keen to receive feedback. Please do

Carers Meetings and Support Groups

Derbyshire Carers Association understands the need for Carers to get together with other Carers, to share experiences, sit and chat, have a cup of coffee or let their hair down and lighten the problems of constant caring. DCA has established Support Groups throughout the county to support Carers locally. These groups give Carers the opportunity to discuss problems and share experiences together in an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

DROP IN SESSIONS
Drop in sessions are held in venues all over Derbyshire for a couple of hours. This allows Carers to have a chat with other Carers or DCA staff over lunch or a cup of coffee.

SUPPORT GROUPS
Support Groups provide a platform for Carers to express their views of current service provision to members of the Statutory Services, as well as giving the Carers the opportunity to participate in the planning of future services. Support groups are set up by Area Co-ordinators in response to Carers needs, and in some cases are run by Carers themselves or the Associations volunteers.

PAMPERING SESSIONS
Carers are invited to attend Pampering Sessions run at several venues around the county. Further details of where they are being held is here.

ANNUAL DAY OUT
An Annual Carers Day Out is arranged by DCA to allow Carers from across the county to get together.

DERBY CITY AREA

Allestree Meets on the second Tuesday of each month 2pm - 3.00pm at Woodlands Evangelical Church, (in the Downstairs Lounge) Blenheim Drive, Allestree For anyone who are fearful of turning up - don't worry, you would have a great welcome here!!! We have an equal mix of male and female Carers. Alvaston Meets on the first Thursday of each month (except December) 10am - 12noon The Library and Learning Centre, Alvaston, Derby Chaddesden Meets on the first Wednesday of each month 10.30am - 12.00 noon at the Help the Aged Resource Centre, next to Perth House, Athlone Close, off Perth Street, Chaddesden This is a mixed group of male and female Carers.. At the moment this is a small and friendly group and new Carers are always welcome to come and chat, young and old. Derby Derby Carers Centre Group Meets on the third Wednesday of each month 10.30am - 12.30pm at Room 2, Derby Carers Centre, Rosehill Business Centre, Normanton Road, Derby This group are mainly Carers who meet to give support to each other while caring for someone at home. This is a friendly group who meet to chat and laugh and give each other support. New Carers always very welcome. Matlock Meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month 10.30am - 12.00noon. The Conference Room, Whitworth Hospital, Darley Dale. Gernon Manor Carers Group Meets Monthly on the 2nd Thursday 2.00pm – 4.00pm. at Gernon Manor, Dagnall Gardens, Bakewell This group is for the Carer/Cared for, who need a high degree of support. The Carer and the Cared for can come along together. The Cared for is looked after by staff whilst the Carer has a short time with others in a similar situation.
