CARERS DAY, BAKEWELL - JUNE 2009 - 'ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR'
Carers Day this year was once again held at the Acticultural Business Centre in Bakewell. The theme this year was 'All the Fun of the Fair, and the staff of Derbyshire Carers certainly went to town with this. The weather could have been a little kinder, it was the day of the flash floods across Derbyshire, but this did not seem to put anyone off, even the jugglers seemed to manage outside!

Nicky, from DCA Head Office, waits to greet Carers as they arrive.
There was Horse Racing (with little wooden horses) which attracted much laughter and fun.

Looks like someone might be winning !

The Jenga tower caused much amusement, not to mention the loud bang when it fell down.

Learning a new skill came easy to some

There was a beetle drive, hoopla and a bouncy castle!!

Lunchtime was an opportunity to sit and chat
There was juggling demonstrations and lessons, hoopla, salsa dancing, 'Guess the Weight of the Cake' and 'Name the Teddy'. For those who wanted 'a bit' of pampering there was nail-art, and there was also the more traditional activities associated with the fairgound rounds and stalls.
CARSINGTON RESERVOIR - JUNE 2009
Ashbourne and Matlock Carers joined together for a picnic at Carsington Water as part of National Carers Week. The weather only just managed to stay fine for us!
Our grateful thanks to Beth for baking the delicious cake and sharing it – we had a lovely day.

Carsington Visitor Centre is a very nice place to sit and relax
DAY OUT AT NOTTINGHAM RACES - JUNE 2009
Nottingham Race Course played host to Derbyshire Carers. The idea came as a request from male Carers, although the day was enjoyed by both men and women Carers. The day didn’t see anyone winning their fortune, although we did manage to do some star spotting as Gok Wan was filming his programme ‘How to Look Good Naked’ so please watch out for us when the programme is televised. Thanks to Claire Raw and team at Derbyshire County Council for funding this opportunity.
A DELIGHTFUL PAMPER EXPERIENCE
In partnership with Crossroads Care, Derbyshire Carers Association held a Pamper Event at Rickman’s Corner in Linton converting the community centre into treatment bays where all the therapists could offer treatments including back / shoulder massage, indian head massage, facials, manicure, pedicures and make-up. A buffet lunch was provided. The event gave time for Carers to talk to each other with their cared for person being supported by a Care Support team, promoting a relaxed and stress free environment. Carers received 2 / 3 treatments, and all agreed it was fantastically enjoyable and a beneficial day with everyone looking glamorous at the end, although the therapists may challenge that view regarding themselves. Thanks to the Crossroads team and the therapists who worked so hard to make the day the success it was.
