Chesterfield College B.Tec Students 2009

In January 2009 DCA were making enquiries about changing the design of its website when, completely out of the blue, we were contacted by Chesterfield College. Leanne Brunt, the Operational Manager for Engagement, Directorate of Science & Humanities at the college, asked if their students could practise their web design skills by designing a new website for us.

We visited the college, and met Leanne and the 16 students who were studying for a B.Tec National Diploma in ICT. One of the units they were studying was web design and project management.

Everyone knows that the best way to learn something is to actually do it, so if DCA could be the 'customer' and the students were the 'supplier' then maybe we could all benefit.

Joanne, DCA's Head Office Manager, gave the students an outline of what DCA did and after Julie, DCA's website manager, answered a few technical questions, it was agreed that we could look forward to seeing what ideas the students had and what website designs they could produce.

For the next few months the students were learning about the practical and legal rules of website design, learning how to use the software which is needed to correctly present the content on your computer screen, as well as other subjects as part of their course - so all was quiet.

With a couple of interim visits to see how things were progressing, Joanne and Julie returned to the college in July to express their admiration at how well the students had designed and developed their own individual websites.

We felt that every single website had something that could be used as a basis for a new DCA website. Although it might look as if it was a diplomatic move in that we did not pick out just one student's design to develop, we honestly did think that all of them were worthy to be used in some way.

The result of the collaberation between DCA and Chesterfield College is a new website, the results of which you can see now.

We would like to sincerely thank the college staff and wish all the following students well in their future careers.
