About Ian

Ian Day has been a collector and hoarder of vintage and retro items for years, and has sold some of his collection through various outlets. Inspired by friend Rosie Moore, of Lulu Rose Vintage, Ian took the plunge and opened his own shop Viva Retro. The launch party took place on Thursday 28th August 2008 and the shop will be open to the public from Monday 1st September.

Located on Belfast's quirky North Street, nestled among second hand book stores and other independent shops, Viva Retro is Belfast's answer to the retro shops of London's Camden. The first clue to this is the interesting and highly entertaining window display. Enter inside and you step straight back to the Swinging Sixties and Groovy Seventies. Viva Retro has everything from picture vinyl discs, framed movie posters and vintage annuals and books, to kitsch furniture and furnishings, sunglasses, bags, hats, televisions, pin ball machines, kitchenalia and textiles.

There is also an extremely eclectic clothing range, in which you can find anything from Victorian aprons and undergarments, Edwardian bonnets and christening gowns, '60s mini dresses, 70's maxi dresses, '80s quirky pieces, shirts, trousers and suits for the men and boys, and also vintage-inspired clothing from the '90s.

The large shop has a corner sofa seating area, where you can relax and peruse the vintage reading material, or play vintage video games. There is so much to look at in Viva Retro - a real blast from the past. A visit to Ian's shop will be a nostalgic trip down memory lane for all those who were around in the 1960s and 1970s. Be reminded of the games you used to play, the books you used to read, the music you listened to, the furniture and tableware you used, and remember what fun times those were. This shop is a dream for the vintage/retro collector or someone searching for something unusual.
