CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS & PARENTS

Cottenham Roller Hockey Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members.

Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with the secretary.

As a member and “Good Player” of the Cottenham Roller Hockey Club I am expected to abide by the following junior code of conduct:              

• play because I want to do so, not to please coaches or parents
• be attentive at all training sessions and work equally hard for myself and for my team and both will benefit 
• play within the rules and accept, without question, all the referee’s decisions.
• recognise good play and effort in ALL players on your team.  Treat all players as you will like to be treated 
• wear suitable kit –shin pads, knee pads and gloves– for training and match sessions
• ABOVE ALL, be a sportsman – win or lose. Control your emotions; verbal or physical abuse is not acceptable.

Remember, if you regularly attend training sessions you will have the opportunity of being selected for a Cottenham team

As a parent of the member, I will:  

• remember that young people play for their own enjoyment not for their parents'
• be realistic about the young player’s ability;
• encourage them, do not force them and focus on their efforts rather than winning or losing.  Do not push them towards a level that they are not capable of achieving  
• remember with your child to respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion.  And as well to show, at all times, respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others.
• always support the Club in their efforts to eradicate loud, course and abusive behaviour from the game
• encourage your child to be attentive during training, keep to agreed timings for training and competitions and inform any member of the committee if they are going to be late
• provide positive feedback both in training and during the game.  REMEMBER that persistent, negative messages will adversely affect the players’ and referee’s performance and attitude  
• pay any fees promptly
• replace tidily all equipment borrowed; remember that borrowed equipment and strip remains the property of the Club and replace any losses.
• respect Coaches & Managers by not entering the dug-outs or rink
• remember not to coach from the sidelines as this may cause confusion
• respect Coaches & Parent Helpers by not entering the hall until a training session has finished.
