Dr Hilary Cooray (Sri Lanka)

Dr. Hilary Cooray is a general dental practitioner in Colombo. He obtained his BDS in 1972 followed by MSc (Lond), FICCDE Orthodontics (Singapore) and MFGDPRCS (U.K.). He is a Fellow of College of General Dental Practitioners for Sri Lanka. He is Past President of the Sri Lanka Dental Association (1991) and was Vice President of the Asia Pacific Dental Federation from 1991 to 1995. He serves on the Board of Study in Dentistry and also in Sports Medicine in the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. He has held many overseas appointments. He lectures to the dental students of the Faculty of Dental Science on General Dental Practice. In Sri Lanka he serves on many ministerial advisory committees. Dr Hilary Cooray was CDA Regional Vice-President for South East Asia (2003 - 2006). He was elected as President-Elect at the 5th Triennial Meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2006, and installed as president at the 6th Triennial Meeting in Singapore on 5 September 2009.

Professor Jacob Kaimenyi (Kenya)

Jacob Kaimenyi, Dean of the Faculty of Dental Sciences at the University of Nairobi, Kenya, is on the editorial board of three international journals. He is a member of the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Board. He was CDA Vice-President for the East, Central & Southern African Region from 1991 to 2000 and was co-opted onto the CDA Executive as an Adviser prior to becoming President-Elect at the 4th Triennial in Nairobi in 2003.  He was installed as President at the 5th Triennial Meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2006.

Dr William O'Reilly (Australia)
CDA President-Elect
   

Associate Professor Bill O'Reilly is the Immediate Past President of the Australian Dental Association Inc and has served two terms as the New South Wales Branch President of the Association. He is an Honorary Life Member of both the national and state dental associations. He holds a dental degree from the University of Sydney and has also been admitted as a Barrister to the Supreme Court of New South Wales. He has practised as a general practitioner in private dental practice and as a Dental Officer in the Royal Australian Navy. He is a conjoint Associate Professor at the University of Newcastle. Bill is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, Pierre Fauchard, Academy of Dentists International and the Australian College of Legal Medicine. He is the current Chairman of the Communication and Member Support Committee of FDI. Bill sits on a number of corporate boards as independent chairman and has wide experience in corporate governance, budget and strategic policy matters.

Dr Sam Thorpe OOR (Sierra Leone)

Dr Sam Thorpe graduated from the University of Otago in New Zealand in 1968. In 1971, he obtained a DDPH from the University of Toronto in Canada, and an MSc in Paediatric Dentistry from the University of London in the UK in 1978. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. He worked for the World Health Organization Regional Office for Africa (WHO/AFRO) first as a Short Term Consultant and Short Term Professional on Oral Health from November 1988 to September 1989, before becoming the first Regional Adviser Oral Health in WHO/AFRO from January 1990 to September 2002. From 1980 to 1988 Sam Thorpe was Head of the Dental Department and Senior Specialist Dental Surgeon at the Ministry of Health in Sierra Leone. In 1986 he was made an Officer of the Order of the Rokel (OOR) by the Sierra Leone Government for distinguished service to dental health. He was Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Community Health, University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Philadelphia, USA from 2002-2005. Dr Sam Thorpe was first elected as the CDA Executive Secretary at the 4th Triennial Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya in 2003.

Dr Anthony S Kravitz OBE (UK)
CDA Treasurer
   

Anthony Kravitz qualified at Manchester Dental School in 1966, just after reaching the age of 21 years. Following six months as a House Surgeon he went into general dental practice in Greater Manchester, until he moved to London in 2005. He became involved in local dental politics in 1969, and then in UK national dental politics in 1981. He was a member of the Council/Executive Board of the British Dental Association (BDA) from 1985 until 2003. At various times, he was a member or chairman of many BDA committees. From 1997 until 2003 he was the chief negotiator for the UK’s 24,000 NHS general practitioners, as Chairman of the General Dental Services Committee (GDSC). He was President of the BDA, for a period of 12 months, from May 2004. Dr Kravitz has been involved in international affairs for the BDA since 1990 and has been involved with CDA matters for the association during this period. He was also a member of the European Union Dental Liaison Committee for over 10 years, (uniquely) chairing two working parties – on Ethics and Quality Assurance, and Dental Auxiliaries. He is the principal author of a 406 page book, the EU Manual of Dental Practice, published in December 2008. Dr Kravitz is also an Honorary Research Fellow at the Cardiff University, Wales. He is also a chairman of the Fitness to Practise Panel of the General Dental Council. He was appointed an OBE by HM The Queen in the 2003 New Year Honours List. Dr Kravitz was first elected as the CDA Treasurer at the 4th Triennial Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya in 2003.

Dr Susan Greening (UK)
CDA Vice-President (European Region)
   

Dr Greening qualified in Cardiff in South Wales in 1977. She spent her early career in community and hospital services in South Wales, with her main interest being paediatric dentistry and oral care for people with special needs. She completed a postgraduate qualification in Community Dental Practice in London in 1987. Sue was Chairman of the Central Committee for Community and Public Health Dentistry at the British Dental Association (BDA) from 1996-2003 and was honoured to be elected President of the BDA in 2006/7. She has also been active in the British Society for Disability and Oral Health (BSDH) throughout her career and became President of BSDH in 2000. She presently chairs the Executive Committee. She is an Honorary Fellow of the University of Cardiff and is on the Board of Directors of Dental Protection Ltd. She has attended the last four FDI Congresses as part of the BDA delegation and was at the last triennial meeting of the CDA in Sri Lanka. Sue is also on the Council of the International Association for Disability and Oral Health. Her day job is presently as Clinical Director of the Community Dental Service in Gwent, where she works as a Specialist in Paediatric and Special Care Dentistry. She has developed many clinical and health promotion programmes for adults and children. She became VP for Europe at the 6th Triennial Meeting in Singapore on 5 September 2009.

Dr Lee Soon Boon (Malaysia)
CDA Vice-President (South East Asian Region)
   

Dr Boon is the current President of the Malaysian Dental Association. He has been in private practice for the last 20 years and is also a part-time academic staff of the School of Dentistry, International Medical University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Dr Boon graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Malaya in 1989 as a top scholar and Tun Abdul Razak gold medalist. He completed his Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry from the University of Warwick, UK in 2007 and 2008 respectively. He is currently working towards completing his Masters of Science in Implant Dentistry, with the University of Warwick, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and International College of Continuing Education. Recently, he was appointed to be the Secretary General for the local organizing committee for the Asian Pacific Dental Congress 2013. He was elected VP for South East Asia at the 6th Triennial Meeting in Singapore on 5 September 2009.

Professor Adeyami Olusile (Nigeria)
CDA Vice-President (West African Region)
   

Professor Adeyemi Oluniyi Olusile was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (B.D.S.) degree at the Dental School, College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria in 1979 and had his postgraduate training in Conservation Dentistry at the Institute of Dental Surgery of the University of London in 1987. He took up a lecturing appointment at the Faculty of Dentistry, Obafemi Awolowo University, in 1989, and was promoted to Professor of Conservation Dentistry in 2006. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry of his University between August 1995 and October 1999. Professor Olusile is an external examiner to all the dental schools in Nigeria and has therefore been
involved in the training of all dentists in Nigeria since 1998. He has been practising as a Consultant Restorative Dentist at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex since November 1989. Prof. Olusile is an active member of his professional association. He is in his second term as the President of the Nigerian Dental Association, having been entrusted with the leadership of this body since May 2006. He was elected VP for West Africa at the 6th Triennial Meeting in Singapore on 5 September 2009.

Professor Flora Fabian-Taylor (Tanzania)

Associate Professor Flora M. Fabian-Taylor is currently the President of the Tanzania Dental Association (TDA). This is her second term as President of TDA. She previously served one term as Vice President. She holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of Dar es Salaam Tanzania and a PhD in Anatomy from the Tokyo Medical and Dental University Japan. She is a member of the International Association for Dental Research. She has taught Human Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Histology, Developmental Biology and Dental Anatomy & Histology to both medical and dental students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the International Medical and Technological University (IMTU), Tanzania. She became VP for East and South Africa at the 6th Triennial Meeting in Singapore on 5 September 2009.

Dr Tanya G J Mortemore DMD (Bahamas)

Tanya Mortemore obtained a Doctorate in Dental Medicine in 1997 from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. In 1998, she completed
a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of Florida College of Dentistry in Jacksonville, Florida, USA. She has practiced General Dentistry in Florida, USA
(1998-2003) and the Bahamas (2003-present). She has been an active member of the Bahamas Dental Association since 2003 and currently serves as Secretary of the Association. Dr.
Mortemore was elected as CDA Vice-President for the Canada/Caribbean Region at the 6th Triennial Meeting in Singapore in 2009.

Dr D Y D Samarawickrama BDS, PhD, FDSRCS, ILTM (UK)

Dr Samarawickrama is the Senior Tutor (Dentistry) and Head of Conservative Dentistry at the Barts & The London, Queen Mary’s School of Medicine & Dentistry, University of London. He is also an assessor for the International Qualifying Examination, General Dental Council, UK, an advisor to the Barbados Dental Council and an undergraduate and postgraduate external examiner to other dental schools in the UK. He is a scientific referee for several journals including Oral Diseases, International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry and Gerodontology. He is an Honorary Consultant and a Specialist in Restorative Dentistry at Barts and The London NHS Trust, London. He has been a consultant in Dental Education to WHO/ PAHO. He is a Former Director of the Dental Auxiliary School, London, a Former President of the British Association of Teachers of Conservative Dentistry and a former President of The Barts and The London Alumni Association (BATLAA) Dental Chapter. His main research interests include endodontics and dental metrology. He lectures in the UK and overseas.  Dr Samarawickrama became Editor of the CDA Bulletin at the 5th Triennial Meeting in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2006; having previously been Co-Editor when Martin Hobdell was the Editor.

Ulrike Matthesius
General Administrator
   

Ms Ulrike Matthesius has worked in the Professional Services Directorate of the British Dental Association (BDA) for over 10 years and for much of this time has been responsible for International Affairs within the directorate. Ms Matthesius is combining her CDA administrator role with her existing one as Education Adviser. Her work at the BDA includes looking after the Education, Ethics and International Affairs Committees and advising BDA members on issues in these areas as well as dealing with a variety of regulatory enquiries.

David Campion
Communications Manager/Webmaster

   

David Campion obtained a B.A.(Arch) degree and a Diploma in Town Planning at the Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London and practiced as an architect involved primarily with Hospitals and Medical Schools until he retired in 1992. He was one of the first architects to introduce the use of computers into architectural practice in the 1960s commencing with the use of databases and subsequently 2-D draughting. He currently maintains over 20 websites for a variety of charitable and other organisations and individuals. In association with his late wife, Julia Campion, he developed the CDAUK website and the databases used to hold the CDA contacts. He is a Member of both the British Computer Society and the Royal Institute of British Architects. He was first elected as a Councillor of the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in 1964 and is still active in that role today; one of his many roles there is as Chairman of the Council's Computer and Communications IT Advisory Group.
