Garden Competition

Every year, The Cambridge Federation organises a Garden Competition; this is open to all residents, community groups and schools on Cambridge council housing estates. With a variety of categories (see below) there is something for everyone. We invite special guest judges who are on hand to help judge the gardens and award the prizes. Each year the diversity of tenants coming forward as gardeners keeps widening - young and old, retired and working, able-bodied and disabled, lone gardeners and gardening groups.

The 2010 Garden Competition

This year’s competition will be judged during the week commencing 26 July 2010 and the prizes will be awarded at the Residents' Festival in October 2010.
This year’s categories are:

  • Best established garden
  • Best kitchen garden (Vegetables, fruits or herbs)
  • Basket & tubs
  • New garden (less than 2 years at property)
  • Communal garden (Sheltered scheme; communal or community garden)
  • Children's garden (pot or plot)
  • Natural wildlife garden
  • Environmentally friendly garden
  • Tallest sunflower

Garden projects

• Are you a keen gardener?
• Are your neighbours keen gardeners?
• Can you help others in your neighbourhood to maintain their gardens?
• Do you know of a patch of Council Housing land in your neighbourhood that you would like to improve or maintain for the benefit of the whole community?

If the answer to any of these questions is YES, please get in touch!

We would like to work with residents on small projects to improve their local environment. We can apply for funding to help with communal equipment or planting and we can organise specialist help and advice from Streetscene’s experienced gardeners to help your project get started.

If you are interested in this project please call us on 01223 568318 or e-mail cambridgefed@btconnect.com
