Under the Bridge

What is Under the Bridge? It's a floating support service for people over the age of 16, who are at risk of homelessness in South Tyneside.

How does Under the Bridge work?

Individuals who are considered suitable for the scheme can be referred to the team at Under the Bridge. Once the individual is accepted on to the scheme, a support worker will be allocated and will visit them, at their place of residence, at least twice a week. The support provided would be discussed between the individual and the support worker and set out in an agreed support plan, which will show how needs and issues are going to addressed. The plan will be reviewed every three months, or earlier if the individual's needs change, to see how they are progressing.

Who does Under the Bridge Support?

The service offers support to those who:

  • Have problems with alcohol or drug misuse.
  • Have recently or are about to leave the custody of prison.
  • Have previously been unable to maintain a home due to chaotic behaviour or complex needs.
  • Have problems with mental health or distress.
  • Face eviction or are at risk of losing their home.
  • Have difficulty with social or communication skills.
  • Are isolated within society.

If any of the above reflects the situation of someone you know or work with then Under the Bridge may be able to help.

How long does the support last?

Support can last from one month to up to eighteen months depending on the individual's needs.
