Newcastle City Council announced the awards on Friday 18th November 2005 and they will be presented at a dinner to be held in January 2006. The entries were assessed by a panel of representatives from local professional and related bodies including the Royal Town Planning Institute, The Royal Institute of British Architects, The Landscape Institute, English Heritage and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment.
The scheme divided the 105 year old Church, a Grade II listed building, into three distinct areas. One part was retained for worship to serve 4,500 people in the parish. A second additional open space is now used as a hall by the local community, Byker Bridge Housing Association and the Church. The third space created a new, open plan, mezzanine floor which is now the head office of the housing association. |
