A small modern school
for pupils ranging from rising 5 to 9 years. Our mission statement states “St Mary and St
Chad C.E. (VC) First School seeks, within a caring and supportive Christian
environment, to develop the full potential of all its pupils whilst nurturing
strong links between the school, home and wider community.”
“The
pupils and parents hold this school in high regard. The school is inclusive
and, through effective teaching, a good curriculum and strong leadership and
management, provides well for its pupils.” Ofsted Report 2004.
A small school mostly comprising modern
buildings but extended to include the modernisation of the old school building.
The school caters for children ranging from rising 5 to 11 years from the
villages of Wheaton Aston, Coven, Penkridge and Bishop’s Wood as well as
Brewood.
Situated in an extensive campus within a beautiful
rural setting, the school is conveniently located for access from Stafford,
Telford and Wolverhampton areas, and has its own fleet of mini buses providing
a comprehensive bus service with a number of flexible routes.
St Dominic’s mission statement is “Growth in mind,
body and spirit” and this belief in the development of the ‘whole person’,
including each child’s spiritual, physical and moral well-being as well as
academic progress, is at the heart of the school. The school achieves
consistent GCSE success and has a record 100% pass rates at GCSE for six
consecutive years, despite the non-academic selective admissions policy.
Scholarships are offered each year at Key Stages
3 and 4 in Music, Drama, Sport and Academic Excellence.
St Dominic’s also provides an all-inclusive extended
day facility for all pupils of all abilities, to enable students to extend and
enhance the curriculum in a challenging, exciting and fun way. The programme is
changed every half term and includes activities such as Duke of Edinburgh
Award, Spanish, Fencing, Gymnastics, Tennis Coaching, Japanese, Freestyle
Dance, Music, Computer Club, Chess and Table Tennis, to name but a few.
