Overview

Changes in legislation effective from January 2006 placed greater onus and accountability on anyone in the food business with supervisory responsibility. It is therefore vital they are equipped with both the knowledge and confidence to do their job effectively.
New levels
In response to the requirements of the Sector Skills Councils and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), the CIEH have launching sector-specific awards in food safety which replaced the CIEH Intermediate Certificate in Food Safety.

 It is a requirement that candidates present photo ID such as a passport or driving licence to the trainer at the start of the course

Assessment method: 60 multiple choice question examination. Candidates who achieve 40–50 correct answers will pass the examination and receive a pass certificate. Those who achieve more than 50 correct answers will receive a merit certificate. The examination papers are marked by the Awarding Body and it normally takes around five weeks for results to be returned

Pre-course reading and course information
Candidates will be supplied with a text book and/or handouts and no pre-course reading is necessary although it is useful to read your organisation food safety rules prior to the course.
