Rules
of the contest April 2007
The competition is
for archers
shooting a traditional longbow and it will be in two parts. A
qualyfying
Western round followed by the challenge for the Royal Armouries Arrow.
1. All competitors must be either members of the BLBS or GNAS.
2. The round will be shot two-ways. As one archer leaves the line
another can take his/her place.
3.
There will be a shoot-off for determining the winner of the Royal
Armouries
Arrow. Other trophies and medals will be on hits, score and golds
in the
Western round.
4. There will be a prize for the best gold of the
tournament. Apart from the golden arrow, other perpetual trophies will
be
held by the winner until the next competition when they must be
returned
in good condition.
5. The winner of the trophies must agree to any conditions set by
the Custodians on how the trophy is to be safeguarded.
6. All archers shall pay one shilling (5 pence) to the first archer who
scores three golds in one end.
7. Competitors are encouraged to wear period costume of their choice
and colour. Others should wear green or white.
8. These rules are subject to change. The final rules will be posted on
this page at least one week before the contest.
The
Chairman of the GNAS Target Committee has ruled that a longbow with
recurved
or reflexed limbs does not meet the definition of a traditional longbow
for
the purposes of rule 206(a). See Archery UK, Autumn 2005. The test of
this
at the St.George will be whether any part of the string touches a
wooden
part of the bow when it is braced. Such bows may be shot in the
tournament
but will not be eligible for any prizes or trophies or medals.
The shoot
off for the Royal Armouries Arrow
This will be in three parts:
- 3 arrows to be
shot at a wand. 3 points for each arrow remaining in the wand.
- up to three
arrows shot at
the pig. NFAS scoring ie 20 for kill, 16 for wound on first arrow; 14
for
kill, 10 for wound on second arrow; 8 for kill,4 for wound on third
arrow.
Only one arrow scores.
- 3 arrows to be
shot at the
knight behind the castle wall through the arrow slit. 5 points for each
hit.
10 for hitting the golden spot. There is a maximum of 59 points to be
scored.
The Castle wall. Shoot the knight behind the arrow slit.
