Bowmen of Adel 60th Anniversary

This year marks sixty years since our club was set up at Adel, in Leeds. In that time, we have had internationals, national champions, and all levels of archer right down to those who shoot once and are never seen again. We know of former members in all corners of the country.

In October, as close as we can get to the date of the first recorded meeting (5th October), we are planning to have a celebratory dinner, and we would be delighted to welcome back any alumni of the club. If you are a former member and you would like to be on our mailing list for this and other events this year, or if you would simply like to share your memories of the club, please could you drop a line to our Secretary (Nick Beeson, 5, Alexandra Place, Ilkley, W. Yorkshire. LS29 9ES).

If you have any views on how the club should celebrate its 60th - share them on the club forum

ANNIVERSARY NEWS

The sub-committee has decided to reward all members who participate in club events and team with a commemorative quiver tag. All have-a-go helpers and members of teams can claim a tag from DOC.

The commemorative badge and key fob will be handed to members at club events to all those who attend.

The Committee has now set up a sub-group to plan events for our golden anniversary.

The sub committee, consisting of Chris Furminger, Guy Sansby, Som De Silva and David O’Carroll, has been formed and they will be taking the events planning and organisation forward.

As these events are for everyone in the club, to help gauge the attendance, we have prepared a small questionnaire to collect your responses to enable us to determine the best suited approach. This will be sent out to members and can be obtained below. Replies are needed by 14th March 2008.Obviously if you are regularly attending the club, dropping them in by hand is fine.

Other ideas which are being discussed are:

  • special trophies for achievements, or recognition of club records;
  • extra/revised shoots through the year in celebration;
  • striking of a commemorative medal;
  • new versions of the club logo for clothing and a special clothing logo for the 60th Anniversary.

Any other ideas will be posted on the website or if you have any ideas for events/ commemoration ideas, please add these into the questionnaire.

The 60th anniversary club colours are a scarlet top and dark grey trousers. Club members can also wear green and white at tournaments. For the 2008 season we have arranged for clothing to be supplied with the 60th Anniversary logo.

We have a new clothing supplier for the club and you can now order polo shirts in green, white or red direct from ARCO.
