JULY
Badminton shoot 30th
July 2008
BoA hosted a HAG for nine
members of the AWMA Badminton section, who were led by Steve the
groundsman. Cedric had devised a short competition for them, which
followed a few ends of sighters – most of them had been with us last
year, and got back in the groove very quickly. 18 arrows at twenty
yards set the tone, as did bags of sweets awarded for best golds, worst
whites and best reds, and a special for a three-gold end. We then put
up four animal faces, Mr Brown, Mr Gruntleft, Mr Dear and Mr Gobble,
who proved less than willing to be hit as the archers moved from target
to target. Finally, in deference to folklore, Granny Smith became the
aim. While the scores were being checked, three “Agincourt Volleys”
took place, with impressive accuracy.
There was actually a tie
for first place, which was settled with a one-arrow shoot-off at a
Granny. The archers were meant to shoot simultaneously, but Steve shot
first, and muttered “Wrong apple” at just the right time to put his
opponent, Ian, off completely. So Steve won, and received “Little
John’s Arrow”, a superbly crafted shortened longbow arrow in a
presentation case. He promised to be back to defend his title next year.
John and Nick were
Cedric’s assistants on the night.

Photo opportunity
29th July 2008
Local photographer
Krystyna Szuleka has been asked to take pictures of local activities
and pastimes for the local Adel Life magazine and visted
the club to take
pictures of archery. Copies of the magazine are usually to be found in
the bar so watch this space. Joe found a soft spot with her.
Other examples of her
work can be found here.
Selby postals
(after two months)
The results so far have
been:-
Recurve A – Won 1 Lost 1
(3rd place of 6)
Recurve B – Won 2 (Top)
Longbow A – Lost 2 (4th
place)
Longbow B – Won 2 (Top)
Praise must go to June
Scott, Dee Wright, Leo Topp and Steven Clemmens who, though not making
the final cut, stuck at their Short Metrics despite never having tried
at 50m before (and thus having no sight marks).
This month’s teams are:-
Recurve A:

Ian Cornick
Recurve B

Longbow postal
& Woodchip 22nd July
Due to
the aweful weather the monthly postal and handicap shoots were
amalgamated. David Hood won both with a score of 298 for the National
round and 1468 on handicap. David was the only longbowman to exceed his
handicap. More on handicaps...
Crecy Longbow
19th July
David
Hood came up trumps in the wand shot at 50 yards which
followed the Western round. Each
archer had one arrow to shoot at the wand and David was one of four to
do so. He then had to take part in the shoot out and was the only one
left to hit the wand. BoA
were represented by Lis, Bruce and the three Davids.
Junior Nationals
6th July
Yorkshire
won the National Compound team Championship at the Junior National
Championship at Lilleshall on July 6th. Sadly, the recurve team was
slightly lower - in 20th place! more.....
BoA
were represented by Helena Beeson and Joe Fairburn. Joe's scores were a
creditable:
Metric V - 770
Bristol 5 - 874
Colin
writes:
250 or so juniors assembled on each day of the weekend to compete in
the Fita Star & Metrics & Junior National Championships at
Lilleshall.
Joe was the youngest in
the competition and competed on both days, shooting 24 dozen arrows in
total.
Up against some excellent
archers, Joe was certainly not phased by it all, and 'got stuck in'
from the off. Highlights over the weekend for Joe were as follows:
Personal Best scores at
Bristol 5 & Metric 5's, best 3 dozen arrows he's ever shot at
30yds, 30m, 20yds, 20m, 15m, 10yds & 10m. Furthermore he shot his
best (imperial) end score (50) and best (imperial) dozen score (92)
he's ever done at any distance.
All in all a very tiring
but enjoyable weekend despite some horrendous weather on both days, but
in particular on the Sunday when the weather changed more times than I
think I've ever experienced!
Its a shame there were
only 2 entrants from BoA as it was evident that many clubs brought a
good handful of archers which added to the overall enjoyment and team
building of their respective members. So perhaps next year all juniors
could be encouraged to attend and have a go!
Round Table 1st
July
Last night, we
entertained 12 members of the Bramhope Round table to what has become
an annual HAG day. Most remembered their tuition from previous years,
so we started off with a few looseners, then straight on to team
scoring – at about 20 yards. Some managed very well, some less well,
but, after 2 dozen, most of the arrows were in the target, and some
flash monkeys were even hitting the gold more often than not. Next
round, shooting at the pig and turkeys….except that the heavens well
and truly opened, and our guests voted to retire to the bar. They had
even provided food, in the form of double man-size portions of lasagne
with garlic bread which soon dried out the company of drowned rats.
Great fun, and they want to return next year….

JUNE
End of June
weekend 28 & 29 June
On
Saturday David A and Lis & David
O'C crossed the border to Lancashire to take part in ther BLBS
Northwest Albion meeting. They could not have chosen a windier day for
a two-way shoot. One end was shooting straight into the wind and the
next with the wind behind. The shoot was organised by Samlesbury
Grasshoppers with their usual hospitality and Lancashire hotpot (what
else?) for lunch. The Yorkshire contingent was well represented and
swept up most of the raffle prizes.
The
Airedale Longbow League mid-summer was held on the St.Ives Estate
on Sunday 29th June.
The usual suspects were in attendance for this leisurely shoot - Davids
Aikin, Hood and O'C, Lis and Stan. In the
morning we shot at 60 yards with a break for sherry. When the morning
shooting had been concluded we were treated to a buffet lunch and a
wand shoot- won by Lis O'Carroll.
In the afternoon we shot four dozen at 50 yards interspersed with cake
& cheese and the remains of the sherry. This was followed by the
bottle shoot whilst David, Keith and Robert worked out the scores.
Meanwhile
back at the club....
Sunday
was set aside for the Independence Shoot and we were hoping to attract
the new archers from the course which ended last Monday. Dire warnings
of the scarifying of the ground by devilish machinery and portents of
doom were found to be misguided.
Beginners course
"pass out" 23 June
Club training officer John Mirfield has
overseen another successful beginners course- the first to complete
their training this season. We are hopeful that many will be joining up
especially the juniors who did really well. Thanks to Paul for the
pictures on photobucket.
If you see any of these new archers around give them a BIG welcome to
the club!
Longbow get the
wind up 22 June
Three members took up the
challenge to have a go at shooting in the longbow on what was a very
blustery afternoon. Armed
with a variety of bows and arrows recovered from dark recesses of DOC's
archery cupboard Chris, Big Guy and Paul shot at thirty yards and
within no time at all were peppering the target without the long lonely
walk. Geof joined in and slotted his arrows through into the gold far
too many times for it to be a fluke. Chris will be joining our longbow
party to the Airedale Longbow Archers shoot at the St.Ives Estate, next
weekend.
St.George's
Westerns 15 June
Chip'n Pin, Bob, Som, Big
Guy,Chris, Lis & Doc and Joe took the medal chase to
Harrogate
and had a thoroughly good time despite the shower of rain. It felt like
summer had finally arrived. Joe, Lis and DOC all shot pbs for the
season and the club's medal tally grew by 2 with Lis gaining a silver
and Bob a bronze.
Results:
Recurve- 3rd Bob-780; 7th Chip-733; 18th Som-676; 27th Guy-629; 31st
Chris-597.
Compound- Guy 9th 788.
Longbow- Lis 2nd 308; DOC 5th 399.
Juniors- Joe 7th 251 (competing with under 14s!)

The results are now
available on the results page. See also the

Strawberry Shoot
What
a fabulous day we
had with a massive turnout. Eighteen club members took part in the fun
event which was followed by consuming large numbers of strawberries
with lashings of cream. There were also quite a number of more
seriously minded archers who shot rounds but missed out on the fun.
The most successful
archer must be Steph who scored on all the targets. Most blanked out on
one or two. The first target was our old friend Hissing Sid the snake.
This year he was closer to the target line and paid the price for this
temerity. He is now a one-eyed snake (can I say that?). as one of his
button eyes was shot out. The next target was shooting through the
arrow slit into the castle. Although many arrow flew through the slit
on a few hit their target. No 3 was the strawberry forfeits. No the
forfeit was NOT to eat as many strawberries as you could in a minute
but to perform the devilish forfeits devised by Helena. We now know the
full meaning of the Hell in Helena. Having survived this target we
moved onto the pig and then the clout. The clout was about twenty yards
and with club bows the most successful technique (see photos) was
drawing the bow about six inches at waist level and pinging the arrows
to drop into the boss lying on the ground. Finally, the entirely new
target, the President's wine box where archers had to try to get their
arrows into the upturnes box with the bottle separaters still in place.
Only one point for each arrow, though if you got two arrows in one
compartment they got two points each; and three arrow got three points
each. The score was then multiplied by the number of hits at the wand.
The
final results were:
Som de Silva 83 points
David O'Carroll 80 points
Nick Beeson 78 points

BLBS Northern Meeting
Three BoA longbowmen
drove down into Derbyshire for the BLBS Northern meeting. The turnout
was poor but the competition was at a high level. This was a two-way
York for gentlemen and a double two-way National for the ladies. Lis
was the proud winner of a gleaming new BLBS medal which now has pride
of place on her quiver.
Postals 4th June
The weather was a
brilliant for a postal on Wednesday night but the turn out was
disappointing. Its not a long round - a short metric- so it is easy to
complete before failing light stops play. Remember its always on the
first Wednesday of the month.
Yorkshires May
31st/June 1st
The usual culprits turned up for the two days of shooting at Grange
Park for the Yorkshire Archery Association Annual Championships.
The Saturday shoot was given over to FITA rounds and the Sunday
to York/Hereford and Bristol rounds. The most ardent archers camped on
site, mostly in caravans but there were a few tents too. Fortunately
BoA archers live close enough to travel to Wetherby so did not have to
endure the grueling camping regime.
But we did have to endure
the grueling weather which was a demoralising drizzle interspersed by
rain. The records will show how many people abandoned the shoot -
but the BoA shot through all the conditions to be rewarded with
cold wet feet and a trickle of cold water down their necks. Apart from
Lis who had a Titan struggle with Denise Singleton from Bronte.
Lis had started well at 80 yards keeping ahead at every end; but after
the short break Denise pulled back over the four dozen arrows shot at
60 yards. Undeterred, Lis whacked arrow after arrow into the
colours at 50 yards for a convincing win to lift the Ladies longbow
trophy. "Lift" is the correct term as this is a massive trophy and
certainly the largest one to enter the O'Carroll household.
Bob, DOC, Helena and Nick
have now dried out and ready for the next competition.
MAY
Knock,knock....who's
there? Bank Holiday Monday
We are going to have to
move to a larger ground if the number of members turning up continues
to grow! This year's Nock broke all records. It was certainly the
windiest day anyone could remember this century; and no-one could
remember how to shoot in such windy conditions. Everyone now
understands
why we need 25 yards safety space at the side of the field.
By 10.30 anyone who was
shooting in the morning had turned up and neat rows of targets had been
set up for a Western. Big Guy and Lis decided that in the gruelling
conditions this was not a sufficient test of their skills and they
opted for a Long Western and Joe (having brought back a medal from
Harvesters the day before) had little choice but shoot the Short Junior
Western distance.
At 11am Chairman Alastair
called those present together, announced that Doc would be field
captain as he had a whistle loud enough to be heard in neighbouring
counties, and that there was an unspecified award for anyone who
managed to complete the round without a miss ( I will tell you now that
the outcome of the award was known fairly quickly and we never did find
out what the award would have been had anyone qualified for it).
The morning session was
only broken by the need to search for arrows that were nowhere near the
targets at which they had been shot and the disappearance of Doc with
his whistle as he tried to coax the barbecue into some sort of activity.
Chip'n Pin came to the
rescue so that burgers and sausages were in full flame by the time the
morning archers left the field. Strangely the area at the back of the
pavilion was both sunny and relatively calm - apart from the frantic
activity of the cooks and the diners.
During the break all
those present received the club's anniversary badge and key ring. All
club members attending a club event will receive these item for free.
All you need to do is take part in one event.
In the afternoon our
numbers grew so that we had 21 archers on the field and three
spectators. The afternooners decided to shoot a Warwick so all shooters
finished their rounds at the same time. The field was struck down in
next to no time and back we went into the pavillion for tea, cake and
biscuits whilst Furface disappeared into the innermost depths of the
changing rooms to carry out the black art
of handicaping scores - the system by which you end up with more points
than you scored.
Triumphantly he emerged.
On appointment of Amy as our Lady Paramount, the results were anounced:
Gold
Nock Paul Winfield
Silver Nock Joe Fairburn
Bronze Nock Guy Sansby
The nockless award for
archers without a handicap went to Guy Nixon. Press here
for photos.
Scorton &
Selby 17/18th May
Eighteen BoA members took
part in competitions over the weekend.
On Saturday Cedric, David
A, DOC and Stan travelled up to Scorton near Richmond
to take part in
the 300th recorded meeting of the Antient Scorton Arrow. They were
accompanied by Lis and Phyl who were appointed as Lady Scorers for the
event. Members of the Society of Archers are on their honour to score
their own scores and at each end of two arrows have to report to the
Lady Scorers any scores they have made.
The members of the
society were tested by the cold and breezy conditions and the scores
were reluctant to grow into double figures for the longbow archers from
Adel, even after the lunch break where generous portions of wine were
available. The presentations were enhanced by the local MP and a
sumptious tea laid on by the ladies of the village of
Scorton. click on

On
Sunday the club,
resplendent in their new scarlet shirts and black trousers hit Selby.
We were able to put in two teams- recurve and longbow- something that
has not happened for many years.A fitting tribute to the resurgeance of
the club in its 60th year.

The teams
were: Recurve:
Bob 766
Longbow:
Lis 250
Chip 732
David A 242
Som 703
Bruce
240
Paul 686
The recurve contingent,
in order of scores, were: Nick, DOC, Guy,
Helena, Rod, Joe and Carol. Jonathon broke his bow. For picture
of recurve contingent click here.
Club shooting
The weather was a
surefire way to get large numbers of the club out shooting. Earlybirds
were setting the first targets out at 10am and the last target was
struck down at 5pm. The team werein evidence making sure tat their
sight marks were correct for Selby next weekend.
Chantry Longbow
Western 10th May
Three BoA longbowmen took
part in the two-way Western round at Chantry, Rotherham. It was a
glorious day which caught most of the archers out and there were some
very red faces. But not from embarassment, as there was some fine
scoring. The highlight of the competition being the shoot-out for best
gold won by a near perfect gold.
David Aikin and DOC both
won £1 in the inner gold sweep. Lis won most golds in the ladies
competition and Lis & DOC won the Jack & Jill for highest
scoring couple. So three medals to add to the clubs tally for our 60th
anniversay year.
Postal 7th May
The dry run of shooting a
postal for the Sundial trophy certainly paid off with more than enough
archers taking part to fill all the team places. There was no problem
in reaching the division target scores- somthing which we did not
achieve in the indoor postals.
The competition proved
too much of an attraction for Chairman Alastair who hadn't picked up a
bow for many months with little effect on his scoring ability. Even
Pete turned up and spent most of the time adjusting his sight marks.
Keep up the good shooting!
Have-a-Go 5th May
Although the day didn't
promise a very fine day the weather seemed to improve throughout the
morning and members who had turned up to help in numbers were quickly
stripping off the extra layers of clothing that they had prudently put
on.
And what an excellent
turn out of people wanting to have a go at archery. Some had obviously
tried it out before on holiday and were quickly piercing the gold. In a
couple sessions we ran out of take-down bows and had to resort to the
green stick bows. This didn't seem to put off any of the punters who
all seemed to have a temendous time. And the Treasurer was pleased by
the bag of cash whcih the President took riound to his house after the
event.

APRIL
Icicle and Sundial
There was some confusion about the starting time which was allegedly
2pm, 2.30pm or 2.45pm. Not that this was of any concern to the
footballers who continued to play until 3pm. So we set up the field on
the corner of the cricket field and proceeded to shoot a BoA metric.
50metres at a large face and 30metres at an 80cm face..
Most of the morning's
rain had spent itself and we were treated with some sunshine just when
we were having tea an Christmas cake (did anyone check the sell by
date?).
The Sundial was won by
Chip and the Icicle by him as well. The full results were:

Adel team members
shoot it out - 25th April
The team celebrated the
last day of indoor training by holding an impromtu competition at The
Forum. They first shot a dozen at Portsmouth traffic light faces; then
a dozen at Vegas faces; ten at a black and white Worcester face; and
finally "round-the-clock" on a darts face with one final arrow to get a
bulls eye.
Chip & DOC were
neck-and-neck after the first round. After the Vegas, DOC showed his
better nerve and experience and inched five points ahead. But slowly
and surely his foe chipped his way back into contention so that at the
darts DOC's lead was only two points. This was quickly smashed by Chip
gaining 11 points to DOC's 7.
DOC's only chance was on
the last arrow- wouild he hold his nerve. There were fifty points at
stake. Chip shot first and his arrow refused to enter the centre. 50
points for a Bullseye, or 25 points riding on one arrow- victory was
within DOC's grasp.
to be continued.
Results in the Age v. Beauty contest. Age
won 639 to 613.
St.George Longbow
Tournament and YAA Clout - 20th April
Despite the awful
weather intrepid Adel archers were out shooting in Morley and
Harrogate. The three Davids made up the
Bowmen of Adel team at Morley
but were pushed into second place by some Lancastrians. Bob (supported by Sara
and Lis) kept the
scores despite some atrocious addition on the score cards. Meanwhile,
longstanding barebow archer Nick was squeezed into second place at the
county clout championships.
Many thanks to all those who turned out to
help set up the longbow field and the Have-a-Go (the latter taking
£90). Amy did a stirling job of selling raffle tickets (with
Thomas from Aire Valley- together they collected £90 - which is a
lot of tickets). Only Cedric, David A. Lis and DOC were left standing
at 5.30 and had to clear the field, load the two vans and then put all
the equipment away. More help needed- don't wait to be asked!
Work
party - 12th
April
Many thanks to those who turned
up for the working party- Cedric, David, DOC, Guy, Paul & Som got
to grips with making five new stands, refurbishing and desplintering
the rest, putting up the red noticeboard for training notices and
having a general tidy up and cup of tea.
Still to do- fixing the
lighting to make it safe (and working in the store). Taking the traffic
lights to the tip. Unsticking the door to the Pavilion, marking out the
field.
First Sunday
Shoot - 6th April
The best of the day was
in the morning when John was out coaching. By the afternoon the weather
was drawing in and by the time targets were set out again it was
starting to snow. Still, three rounds were shot and several other
enjoyed a wintery shoot, the targets being lost in flurries of snow at
times. With temperatures dropping to 3 degrees it was back into the
pavilion for a cup of hot coffee and Jaffa cakes.
Outdoor season
begins
The 2008 outdoor season
has got off to an early start with Chip & Pin appearing nightly on
the cricket field. Apparently, Mrs Pin thinks he is upstairs doing the
decorating. They were joined by Lis and DOC on Thursday evening
shooting on the top field within the football railings towards the
mound. Just as well as there were early sightings of cricketers playing
in the nets. Lis & DOC claim to have shot the first outdoor rounds
of the season - a Warwick. The scores were undisclosed.
Meanwhile the squad
continues to meet on Friday evenings at HASSRA Leeds AC at The Forum in
Quarry House. DOC has now dusted down his recurve and Jean is busily
telling him all the bad habits he has acquired from having shot mostly
longbow for five years. DOC says he means to gain a place in the team
at Selby.
Anyone interest in
shooting at Selby on 18th May should contact Som who is putting in a
club entry.
MARCH
YAA
Field Champs - 30th March
2008
The 2008 championships
returned to Dearne Valley after being held more locally at Rigwelter in
2006. Lis and David O'Carroll were only BoA archers to take part and
thoroughly enjoyed their return to field archery. Unfortunately, this
was not translated into medals. Full results on YAA website.
Pandamonium
- 30th March
2008
The Pandamonium
tournament went ahead on Sunday at Adel, without a hitch despite the
last minute transfer to Bedquilts. Cedric and David had marked out the
Bedquilts shooting area on Friday afternoon having been told by DOC of
the change of venue 5 minutes after they had arrived to start work. On
Sunday morning the main task was simply setting out the range.
Nick arrived at 9am to
find Stephen Richmond (football secretary) and his young daughter,
preparing food. It turned out that the football matches that had been
rescheduled to that day had been two cup semi-finals rather than
ordinary league matches, and had to be played before the finals; the
food was to make it a special occasion for footballers. Pandas soon
arrived, along with David Aikin, and many hands made light work of
setting up. Fencing off the area was a right pain, as there had been
heavy rain in the night and most of the perimeter was in huge puddles..
All was set up well in advance, along with a gazebo to shelter the
sherry.
As the archers arrived,
they smelt the bacon and sausages being cooked for the footballers, and
managed to consume all the supplies that Stephen had laid on. Shame!
Shooting started slightly late, as the Judge had not arrived. A panda
took over as Field Captain – at assembly, the only instruction given
out was “The next sherry is after 2 dozen”. Longbowmen! Conditions were
bright but with a strong breeze.
I left them to it, and
returned at 4 to find they had finished shooting. Again, entrants and
pandas meant that take down and storage were carried out quickly. There
had been no problems during the day, and all finished happily. There
was no interference from footballers, who were all well behaved as
guests of Adel.
Panda were extremely
grateful, and felt a grand day had been had by all. All in all, it
could have been a lot worse.

Frostbite - 22nd
March 2008
The Easter
weather forecast was spot on as we woke up to a layer of crunchy snow
on the ground. By eleven o'clock the roads were clear but the snow
persisted on the cricket field at Adel and a blustery wind was blowing
from the West. Nevertheless the turn-out was good with a cross section
of old die hards and keen newbies taking to the field.
The sun
blessed us with some warmth with Pin doing his hard man act by shooting
in shirt sleeves (with his padded jacket
hidden on the pavilion balcony). The scores were down on last month
totalling 1355 - not too surprising
given the weather conditions. Places in the team were hotly contested
with 4th and 5th place being decided on
hits. The team was: BB 304; Chip 299; JA 260; Big Al 246; and DOC 246.
BB took the Icicle and Jonathon the Iciclette with 206. Paul was just
pipped for a place in the team by three points with Guy at 232
supported by Cedric.
Chip congratulates
DOC on winning smartest tea cosie contest.
Club indoor
championships - 16th
March 2008
19
members took part in the end of season club championships and we had a
club record for a new archer shooting in compound. No the record wasn't
that we had a new compound archer shooting in the indoor
competition but that he successfully made the transformation from
shooting at playing cards to scoring 559 on a 3-spot face. In recurve
Phyl Abbott won the ladies with 474 and Bob Key won the Gents with 574.
In
longbow Lis O'Carroll scored 329 and David Hood 401. In junior
recurve we had four entries. Helena Beeson won the ladies and Jonathan
Hill the gents.
The
President handed out the trophies to the correct members as well as
handing out achievement badges. Full winners results on the results
page.
Everyone
took away something- including happy memories of an enjoyable
afternoon, the speediest striking down of the range and a tea that
broke all Government healthy eating guidelines. HAPPY EASTER!
FEBRUARY
First
squad
session - 29th
February 2008
Six
members made it to the first squad training session. Jean Clarkson has
agreed to take our aspiring team squad in her hands with the aim of
getting us prepared for the summer season. There are still places on
the squad - just talk to Som.
Fereezing
February
Frostbite -
16th February 2008
What
a
beautiful morning greeted the six members who trod through the light
frost that clung to the patch of grass still in the shadow of the
pavillion. Bob
managed to bring all his arrows and various strings which he then
proceeded to disentangle. The rest of us just put up our bows with
whatever was in our box. Bob pronounced
that Spring was upon us and sallied forth
into the sun before it nipped behind the clouds - not that there were
any clouds to talk about.
The
team manged to accumulate 1387 points (15 poinits above the threshold
for division 19) despite not having any sunglasses.
Scores
were: Big Bob 306; Chip 301; Doc 282; Paul 263 and Furface 235. David
A broke at least four nocks as he released muttering that they were
relatively new- we estimate they were used in the ark and had gotten
brittle.
JANUARY
January postal
At last we are back
in the hall and a big thankyou for all who turned up to put the big
jigsaw in place in record time. We were greeted to NHS hospital ward
green walls but GNAS green woodwork. Places in the two teams are
getting tight and soon scores of 500 will be needed to secure a place
in the B team. Results as always on the results page. OK- so I'm a big
softy- here's a direct link to January results
(thanks to Nick and his pdf wizardry).
Friendly match v.
Spen -
25thJanuary 2008
At short notice, Spen
Valley Archers agreed to send six members to The Forum for a friendly
match. After a delayed start because of road traffic hold ups the
twelve archers shot at some speed to complete their Portsmouth rounds
in record breaking time. If only the same could be said of the scores.
On a head to head (top scorer Spen versus top scorer Adel) it was a 3-3
draw but on adding up all the scores Adel won by 3039 to 2998.
Airedale Longbow

Frostbite of 2008 -
12thJanuary 2008
Bob
managed to bring the Icicle back and this was duly awarded to Som who
had won the December Icicle. It was then taken away from him and put
back on the counter. President David had arrived without bow or arrows
to wish everyone well. He had a note from from his Mum to say he
couldn't shoot outside and in any case he was off to Keighley for the
Airedale shoot. Neither excuses were accepted.
Bob
got the plonker award for forgetting to bring his arrows. Everyone else
had managed to bring all their equipment and assemble it correctly.
With darkening skies the shooting commenced. The final outcome was a
load of cold but satisfied archers and a winner in Bob with 320.Other
scores were: John 271;Som 245;Phyl 221; Paul 214; Jonathan C 191; David
A 185 and Cedric 140.
A
good turnout.
BoA/HASSRA Indoor
tournament - Sunday 6th
January 2008
Tournaments don't
just organise themselves and it was gratifying to see the numbers of
club members willingly giving up their time to help with his event. Its
a popular tournament with local archers as it gets back into shooting
ways ahead of the first record status shoot at Wakefield the following
week. The turnout was as good as ever, with only a few spaces left in
the morning session. Bob Key officiated as judge with David and Cedric
as field captains. The new H-frame stands hand-built by Cedric worked
well. Our thanks also go to Keith at the Forum for getting the lights
working and for providing refreshments. |
