Other Doctor Who authors

There are over 150 authors who have written Doctor Who novels, short fiction, audios, or reference books. And that’s before you count those who have written for tie-in or spin-off series like Bernice Summerfield. About 10% of those Who authors also have web sites, most of which contain thoughts or suggestions for other aspiring writers. They seem to go out of date so quickly that I’ve given up listing them here.

However, here’s a summary of online interviews and Q&A sites, plus a few of the more interesting author personal web pages that are still active.

Interviews:

"Ask the Author":  A question-and-answer section, where anyone can quiz authors (and other DW creative types) about their work. It’s part of GallifreyOne portal, and participants include: Austen Atkinson, David Bishop, Jon Blum, Colin Brake, Simon Bucher-Jones, Mark Clapham, Paul Cornell, Martin Day, Jon de Burgh Miller, Paul Ebbs, Simon Forward, Nev Fountain, Clayton Hickman, Craig Hinton, Mags Halliday, David Howe, Joseph Lidster, David McIntee, Mark Michalowski, Jonathan Morris, Kate Orman, Lance Parkin, Nick Pegg, Gary Russell, Cav Scott, Rob Shearman, Dale Smith, Dave Stone, Keith Topping, Nick Walters, and Mark Wright. If you can bear it, there’s even an Ask Peter Anghelides section. You need to register to use it.

Author interviews on GallifreyOne: This site features interviews with writers of scripts, novels, short stories, and novellas, including: Tom Arden, Trevor Baxendale, Richard Bignell, Simon Bucher-Jones, Mark Clapham, Steve Cole, Paul Cornell, Jon de Burgh Miller, Terrance Dicks, Paul Ebbs, Simon Forward, Kelly Hale, Alistair Lock, Iain McLaughlin, Mark Michalowski, Lawrence Miles, Jonny Morris, Kim Newman, Lance Parkin, Justin Richards, Lloyd Rose, Gary Russell, Cav Scott, Keith Topping, Mark Wright.

Novelist and script writer interviews: The BBC Cult site has interviews and articles about the books and audios, and some of them are video clips. Interviewees include novelists, audio writers, and TV writers. And it includes Peter Anghelides.

Web pages:

*        Mark Clapham: An omnibus (d’you see?) of Mark’s work, available on the Shiny Shelf site.

*        Martin Day: Interesting stuff about Martin’s non-DW and TV work here, too.

*        Steve Emmerson: Good insights into writing a first novel, on simple-to-navigate pages that inspired the redesign of this site.

*        David Howe: Howe’s Who leads you to book covers and information about David’s many DW splendid reference works. David’s also one of the people behind Telos Publishing.

*        Jean Marc Lofficier: Terrestrial Index author and producer of other, non-DW stuff. His Terrestrial Index is also on-line.

*        Mark Michalowski: The luminous Mark M in his alarmingly yellow t-shirt says bright things about his writing.

*        Kate Orman: Kate comes from a land down under. Lots of useful info here about her books, plus other writing resources. Check out the ButterflyRoom newsletter, too. Kate writes an e-mail column called LemnisKate full of information and advice about her writing. She also offers a  reading and commentary service on DW proposals.

*        Justin Richards: Justin keeps promising to launch his web site. This is a pointer to remind him to get on with it. You can read an interview with him on the amazon.co.uk site. Or you can check out the site for his Invisible Detective series of novels.

*        Cavan Scott and Mark Wright: A gestalt entity, this is a shared home page.
