Short Trips: Repercussions

Short story “The Seismologist’s Story”, first published by Big Finish Productions in August 2004, ISBN 1-84435-048-7

In November 2003, Gary Russell invited a group of writers to submit proposals for an anthology called ‘The Web of Time’—a collection of 13 linked stories, plus one overall framing story that would connect the others and provide the conclusion. The deadline for proposals was the end of March 2004.

I sent Gary two ideas. One was about Lady Margaret Pollard, the mother of the Eighth Doctor’s companion (in the audio stories) Charley Pollard. Unknown to me at the time, Charley’s mother was already to appear in an audio adventure that he’d written with Alan Barnes called Zagreus—not only did they have different ideas about Charley’s mother, she wasn’t called Margaret either.

Fortunately, Gary liked my other proposal, originally called ‘Professor Bulwerth’s Story’. I thought about this because I’d read some interesting articles about drill projects exploring seismic faults in the Earth’s crust.

I’ll provide more information about the writing process once the book has been published and available for a while—to say anything else at this stage will spoil the fun!
